The latest Breece Hall insult should be too much for Jets fans to take

Fresh off his first 1,000-yard season, New York Jets star Breece Hall is playing — and getting paid — like a top-10 running back. 

CBS Sports must not have gotten the memo, as their anti-Jets crusade continued with a recent ranking of the 10 best players at every position. The 12-man panel named Hall an honorable mention, with his six points placing him No. 12 among the 17 running backs. 

Unlike the somehow incredibly underrated Garrett Wilson, who should be a lock for these lists, there’s at least a discussion to be had about Hall being a top-10 running back. I’d personally put him much closer to No. 10 than No. 15. 

However, CBS Sports elected to put Cardinals rookie Jeremiyah Love and the Raiders’ Ashton Jeanty above Hall, which is outright laughable.

Forget the counting stats for a moment. Granted, they’re obviously important to this conversation, but they’re not the be-all, end-all. 

Love placed No. 10 and collected 11 votes despite not playing a single game yet. Jeanty, who was arguably overpicked and had a dreadful rookie season, had eight points to Hall’s six. 

CBS Sports has every reason to buy high on Love, though I’m skeptical he’ll come anywhere close to justifying being the No. 3 pick. But there’s a reason why the Cardinals now rank among the league’s worst franchises. 

Rookies should be ineligible for these lists. How can anyone reasonably claim that Love is a better running back than Hall or the Rams’ Kyren Williams? He hasn’t even taken the field in a preseason game. 

CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles cited the fact that Love was the highest-selected running back in nearly 10 years and his overall potential. Fine. 

Meanwhile, Jeanty is the latest example of NFL analysts favoring talent rather than facts. A group of scarecrows would have done a better job protecting Jeanty and Geno Smith than the 2025 Raiders’ offensive line. 

And yes, Jeanty had an incredible college career. But to argue with a straight face that he should already place above Hall, Kyren Williams, or even the Browns’ Quinshon Judkins is ridiculous. 

If Pereles and CBS Sports wanted to predict how these lists will look in five years, then Love and Jeanty would absolutely have a case for the top 10. You could even sway me on Jeanty being a top-five running back by 2031. 

But neither should be anywhere close to the current top 10. Context and common sense must win out, right?

Then again, an unnamed voter also deemed Travis Hunter the league’s ninth-best cornerback. I think we’re done here.
