CBS Sports officially has it out for Garrett Wilson and the Jets

For whatever reason, CBS Sports has seemingly had it out for Garrett Wilson and the New York Jets throughout the offseason.

Clearly, that won’t be changing ahead of training camp. 

A nine-voter panel recently evaluated each team’s quarterback-running back-pass-catcher trio, or what they affectionately call “triplets.” The Jets, as expected, boast a “triplet” of Wilson, Geno Smith, and Breece Hall.

And unsurprisingly, the Jets placed No. 29 of 32. Although the full results aren’t known, CBS Sports’ Jared Dubin disclosed that one voter had them ranked as high as No. 22, while another placed them No. 30.

“It feels like they’re being punished for Smith’s awful season in Las Vegas, which unfolded under horrendous circumstances in arguably the NFL’s worst offensive environment,” Dubin wrote.

For reference, the Browns, Dolphins, and Titans all ranked below the Jets. 

You are not convincing me that the Jets’ trio of Smith, Hall, and Wilson is worse than the Cardinals’ triplets of Jacoby Brissett, Jeremiyah Love, and Trey McBride. 

Love hasn’t played a game yet, and Brissett is a journeyman quarterback holding out. 

Arizona is No. 26, by the way, and barely ahead of the Steelers. Nothing scares me more than Aaron Rodgers handing the ball off to Jaylen Warren. 

We’re putting the Raiders above those three teams, too? Really? Let’s not pretend that Fernando Mendoza is inheriting an above-average offense. 

In fact, CBS Sports listed Mendoza in the triplets when Kirk Cousins is all but assured of the starting job. 

Seriously, what are we doing here?

By no means am I suggesting the Jets are the 2007 Patriots. I nonetheless find it incredibly difficult to believe that Smith, Hall, and Wilson are worse than all those teams. 

Wilson has surpassed 1,000 yards three times in four seasons despite the constant quarterback shuffling. Hall just had the best season of his career and is still only 25. 

Then again, CBS Sports has picked on the Jets throughout the spring and summer. 

Nothing the Jets do is good for their analysts, who have repeatedly created the impression they expect Smith to resemble Nathan Peterman. 

At this rate, the Jets could go 15-2 and win the AFC East, and CBS Sports would only give them a C+, probably citing their point differential. 

Meanwhile, the Cardinals could finish 3-14 and earn a B- because they “showed progress.”

I swear, the national media and their Jets opinions…
