Jets 'worst' free agent signing really isn't all that bad despite ESPN saying so

If anything, it's a bargain.

Entering the offseason, the New York Jets were lucky enough to only have one real question mark along their offensive line, and that was at left guard.

The Jets' 2024 and 2025 first-round picks, Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou, are holding down the offensive tackle spots. At center, Josh Myers is on a two-year, $11 million contract, and right guard Joe Tippmann should be in line for an extension this summer.

But after Alijah Vera-Tucker and John Simpson departed in free agency, they had no choice but to find a replacement. Enter former Las Vegas Raiders offensive lineman Dylan Parham.

New York inked Parham to a two-year, $16 million contract, locking him in as the Jets' final starter. Despite being a solid NFL-caliber start, the signing has not exactly been met with positivity.

ESPN claims Dylan Parham was the Jets worst signing

Bill Barnwell, a senior writer for ESPN, broke down every team's best and worst signings of the 2026 offseason, and for the Jets, he named Parham as the worst.

"Teams have taken shots on former Raiders in free agency with the hopes of getting more out of players once they leave Las Vegas. A year ago, that was a success for the Panthers with Tre'von Moehrig, but the Packers didn't enjoy the same results with Nate Hobbs, who was cut after one season."

It's fair to question an addition from the Raiders, the worst team in the NFL last season, but Parham was a solid offensive lineman in Las Vegas last season.

According to Pro Football Focus, Parham was the 38th-best guard in the league last year, and while that doesn't sound all that great on the surface, the Jets' old starting left guard, Simpson, was ranked 53rd.

At minimum, Parham should be an upgrade over Simpson, and even if it doesn't work out, it's not like the Jets are married to him in the long-term.

Parham's contract has a built-in out next offseason. If his play isn't up to snuff, the Jets can cut him and save $5 million in cap space.

Is it true that the Jets could have a better player manning their left guard spot? Absolutely. Is he the worst signing they made this offseason? That's a bit of a stretch.
