Jets should laugh in Giants' face if they come knocking for Braelon Allen

No, the Jets should not make this trade with the Giants.

The New York Jets are not allowed to have good players. That's the thought process of seemingly every single analyst who covers a team that isn't the Jets. We get it, the Jets are a bad football team as they sit at a disappointing 2-6 on the season, but this narrative is so tiresome.

These same people clutch their pearls anytime a quarterback in the NFL draft is linked to the Jets. Urging said player to go back to school to avoid the franchise, like there aren't other horrendous franchises littered across the NFL.

Pick a lane. Are the Jets just supposed to be the league's punching bag for eternity, or can they try to improve their roster to be able to take on a rookie quarterback? You can't have it both ways.

This is happening again as the NFL trade deadline rapidly approaches. The latest trade proposal that needs debunking is the Jets moving on from Braelon Allen.

New York Jets suggested trading Braelon Allen to the Giants

What are we doing here? Why on earth would the Jets trade Allen right now?

Since taking over for the injured Breece Hall, Allen has had five straight games of solid to elite- level production. Over these five games, Allen is averaging 5.4 yards per attempt with 504 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

He's got three 100-yard games, two of which came in the last two games. He has more 100-yard games this season than Bijan Robinson, Jonathan Taylor, Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley, Quinshon Judkins, Jeremiyah Love, Ashton Jeanty, Cam Skattebo, Bhayshul Tuten, Javonte Williams, Ollie Gordon, Kyren Williams, and Chase Brown,

Allen's cap number for this year is just $1.2 million, and he has one more year left on his rookie deal in 2027 at $1.3 million. That would put him as the 55th highest-paid running back in 2027 in terms of cap hit. That's insane value. Again, why would the Jets dare move off of that?

Even though Allen is in year three right now, he's still just 22 years old. This is a young, ascending football player; as Forbes mentions, there's no reason to move on from him for New York.

This is a team that is going to be drafting a quarterback in 2027. It's 100 percent necessary for the Jets to put that young player in the best possible position to succeed. Selling off pieces on offense, especially players like Allen, is not the way to go about setting that kid up for success.

Let the Jets have good players. Go find your trade fodder somewhere else.
