The New York Jets were dealt a tough blow on Tuesday when it was revealed that rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq would likely miss the rest of training camp after facing a setback in relation to hernia surgery.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn reiterated to reporters that he is "not worried" about the long-term outlook of Sadiq's rookie season and believes he'll be back on the field in time for the start of the regular season.

But the team's latest move may suggest that everything with Sadiq may not be peachy keen, as they felt the need to go out and sign another tight end, despite already having four healthy players without him.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Jets are signing former Marist standout and undrafted free agent tight end Connor Hulstein, roughly 24 hours after the announcement of Sadiq's injury.

Hulstein is coming off three seasons of college football, two with the Princeton Tigers and one final senior season at Marist with the Red Foxes.

Last season, he led all FCS tight ends with 42 catches for 599 yards and seven touchdowns, after catching a combined 11 passes from 2023 to 2024 at Princeton.

He participated in the Jets' rookie minicamp this past May, but was unable to stick around after his initial tryout. Hulstein will now have training camp and preseason to carve out a spot for himself.

The real concern here, though, isn't Hulstein's addition, but what it could mean for Sadiq's injury and long-term recovery. Are the Jets worried that their first-round draft pick will be out longer than expected?

It's possible. Even without Sadiq in the mix, the Jets have Mason Taylor, Jeremy Ruckert, Jelani Woods, and undrafted free agent Chase Curtis. Adding Hulstein brings them up to five, which they surely won't need heading into the regular season.

For the sake of the Jets' offense, let's hope that Sadiq's injury is just as manageable as Glenn made it out to be when it was first announced.

If New York's offense is going to be operating at full capacity, they need their 6-foot-3, 245-pound athletic specimen in tip-top condition.

Hopefully, the month off will get Sadiq where he needs to be so he can take the field with the rest of the starters in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans.
