The NY Jets have taken a 3-8 start to a season that began with Super Bowl expectations and managed to somehow get even worse. This is a skill that can't be acquired, as certain franchises simply have this skill baked into their DNA. Look no further than their game against the Seattle Seahawks.

At one point, the Jets led 21-7. Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes, Kene Nwangwu ran a kick back for a touchdown in his first game with New York, and the Jets recovered a Seattle fumble on a kickoff. From there, all hell broke loose, as the squad fell behind in the fourth quarter again.

Flash forward to the end of the game, which was preceded by a Leonard Williams pick-six and multiple Jets stops negated by penalties, and the team fell to 3-9 on the season after a 26-21 home defeat. The playoffs are all but mathematically out of reach for a Jets team that will have their ninth consecutive losing season in 2024.

The Jets can't even tank properly. Once again, fans were teased of a team that could have actually made some noise with a productive showing against a possible playoff squad. Instead, they are 3-9 and firmly in the race for one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft.

NY Jets remain miserable with pathetic choke job against Seahawks

The Jets' offense was lifeless in the second half, as whatever pixie dust Aaron Rodgers managed to pick up totally evaporated. Once the pick-six happened, nothing went right for a Jets team that had the Seahawks right where they wanted them before letting them escape with a win.

The defense held the Seahawks to below 130 total yards in the first half, but they couldn't stop Seattle if they had 13 players on the field in the second half. The decimated secondary can be absolved to some degree due to injuries, but the overall unit should still be held accountable.

The silver lining for the Jets outside of the whole draft position debate is the fact that many of the players who will be around long-term looked solid. Rookie Olu Fashanu had his best game as a pro, Will McDonald had two sacks, and the running backs had productive days. Outside of that, the black clouds are still swirling over MetLife Stadium.

Jets fans have nothing to hold onto except the promise of better things with a new regime, which is the only thing that has prevented the fanbase from descending into full apathy. The good news is the team only has five more games to go.
