Jets have a perfect veteran trade option if they need to add to the quarterback room

The New York Jets may need to add to their quarterback room after a recent Justin Fields injury, and there’s a perfect veteran target for the team.

Thursday morning, news broke that New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields was being carted off the field at practice after suffering a lower-body injury. Fields is in line to be QB1, so all Jets fans could think was: not again. Head coach Aaron Glenn has since announced the injury as a toe injury, but said the team doesn’t know the severity yet.

Best-case scenario would be Fields being just fine and returning to his role as the starter. However, if the veteran quarterback’s injury forces him to miss any time, the Jets will have to think about adding to the quarterback room. New York already has the experienced Tyrod Taylor, as well as Adrian Martinez and Brady Cook. If the Jets are uncomfortable with that group, they will have multiple veteran quarterbacks they can acquire.

One name that makes a lot of sense is Jameis Winston. The veteran quarterback is currently in camp with the New York Giants, but having him switch teams could make a lot of sense for both teams.

Jets could explore trading for Jameis Winston if Justin Fields’ injury is severe

Again, this all depends on how severe the injury is for Fields. If he has to miss any time, New York would probably be comfortable with Taylor stepping in as QB1. However, it’s safe to say there are concerns about Martinez or Cook being the primary backups then. That’s where Winston could come in and help.

The productive veteran is currently the forgotten quarterback over with the Giants. With Russell Wilson as the starter for them, and first-round rookie Jaxson Dart being brought along as the future of the franchise Winston has been relegated to the vibes guy. Since the Giants are going all in on Wilson and Dart, they’d seemingly be willing to part ways with Winston.

So, if the Jets need to add another quarterback for any reason, calling the Giants to get Jameis Winston on the other New York team should be one of the first steps.
