The New York Jets had a clear mission this offseason, and that was to increase the talent on the offensive side of the ball. Although games haven't been played yet, they have certainly gotten better on that side.
Not only are they getting praise from fans, but other members of the NFL media are taking notice. Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame released an article ranking the best offensive triplets for the 2026 campaign, and he had the Jets at No. 20. The three players that he used are Geno Smith, Breece Hall, and Garrett Wilson.
"Surprised to see the Jets this high on the list? Me too. The variable here is whether Smith can return to his pre-2025 form. If so, New York has talent with Hall being a 1,000-yard back, and Wilson posting three 1,000-yard seasons over his first four years. Again, is Smith the quarterback who paced the NFL with 17 interceptions a year ago in Las Vegas, or the guy who threw for 4,320 yards and 21 touchdowns the year prior in Seattle?"Matt Verderame
The biggest caveat is what kind of player Smith will be in New York, but as Verderame explains, if he can recapture the success in Seattle, he has the weapons around him to be effective.
Jets offense gets some love from Sports Illustrated
Last season with the Raiders, Smith was in a bad situation where he had a terrible offensive line that allowed constant pressure to get home and failed to open up holes in the run game. Not to mention tight end Brock Bowers, who was the best pass catcher, was limited to 12 games.
That led to negative ripple effects for Smith, but in a new system, there's certainly a chance he can play at the level he had with the Seahawks. Between 2022 and 2024, Smith averaged 4,075 passing yards and 23 passing touchdowns with Seattle. Bringing that caliber of player to New York will raise the floor of the offense tremendously, especially with Hall and Wilson as the go-to options.
Hall is a dual-threat weapon out of the backfield, logging 3,398 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns, including his first 1,000-yard rushing season in 2025. He also has snagged 188 catches for 1,642 receiving yards and nine receiving scores.
Meanwhile, Wilson has played with eight different quarterbacks in his Jets career, but that hasn't impacted his production. Over the past four seasons, the Ohio State product has finished with 315 receptions for 3,644 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns, including three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.
No matter who has been throwing him the ball, Wilson has found ways to make plays, and if he can get consistency from Smith, his output could improve even more. Smith being able to lean on both Hall and Wilson is exciting, and it also has the attention of people covering the league, which isn't the norm around a Jets offense.
This trio ranks ahead of fellow AFC teams like the Dolphins, Titans, Browns, Raiders, Colts, Jaguars, and Steelers. That's encouraging, especially since other guys like Omar Cooper Jr., Kenyon Sadiq, and Adonai Mitchell aren't even mentioned. For the first time in a long time, Jet fans should be excited about their offense ahead of the campaign.
