New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd offered his first public comments on Wednesday, delivering the kind of news everyone around the team had been hoping to hear.

Boyd, who was shot outside a Manhattan restaurant early Sunday morning and rushed into emergency surgery, shared an encouraging message from the hospital as he continues to recover.

His update came not long after head coach Aaron Glenn provided his own optimistic outlook. Glenn told reporters he spoke with Boyd shortly after the incident and described the defensive back as upbeat and in good spirits.

The first-year head coach said his immediate concern was for Boyd’s wife and newborn child, but he’s relieved and confident that Boyd is “going to come out of this really, really well.”

The 29-year-old posted an update on Instagram on Wednesday, sharing a smiling photo from his hospital bed.

Boyd’s condition has steadily improved since undergoing surgery, and multiple reports indicate he’s now stable and recovering. NYPD investigators are still working through the details surrounding the shooting, but from the Jets’ perspective, the only focus is Boyd’s health.

The veteran defensive back shared a brief statement from his hospital bed on Wednesday, thanking supporters and making it clear he’s staying positive. It echoed exactly what Glenn described earlier in the day.

“Kris just had a kid,” Glenn said. “My first thought was his wife and his family. I just wanted to make sure he was OK. And I’m happy he’s going to come out of this really well.”

Boyd signed a one-year deal with the Jets in March and was expected to compete for a roster spot as a depth cornerback and core special-teamer. Unfortunately, he suffered a shoulder injury during a team scrimmage in early August and was placed on the injured reserve before the start of the season.

Glenn told reporters on Wednesday that Boyd has remained involved with the team and has continued to spend time at the facility. He noted that Boyd has been especially valuable on special teams and has played a key role in helping develop rookie cornerback Qwan'tez Stiggers as a gunner.

Now, the organization is rallying around him in a situation far bigger than football, and, thankfully, the latest update points toward a full recovery.
