NY Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was identified as the victim of a shooting on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue in Midtown. The shooting reportedly took place at around 2 a.m. on Sunday. Boyd is in critical condition and is reportedly at Bellevue Hospital.
According to the New York Post, Boyd was identified as the victim of the shooting despite the police initially not listing him as such. No arrests have been made in this case, and the shooting is under investigation, according to the police.
According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, the Jets themselves are aware of the situation but will offer no comment at this point. The Jets released an official statement shortly after this, reading, "We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time."
Jets CB Kris Boyd reportedly in critical condition after shooting
Boyd joined the Jets in the offseason as a depth piece and special teamer. Boyd, a Texas alum, has spent the bulk of his career with the Minnesota Vikings prior to suiting up for the Houston Texans during the last two seasons. Unfortunately, Boyd has not suited up for Gang Green this season, as injuries forced the Jets to put him on the shelf for the rest of 2025.
Boyd was placed on injured reserve before the season started, which brought an end to his 2025 campaign. The Jets may try to bring back Boyd in the future if Aaron Glenn or special teams coordinator Chris Banjo believes he can be an impactful player.
The Jets' 2025 season has been marred by tragedy before this incident, as the sudden passing of franchise legend Nick Mangold at just 41 years old due to complications from kidney disease was already difficult for this team to stomach. This latest incident involving Boyd adds to what has been a very trying season for everyone in the organization.
Our best wishes and thoughts go out to Boyd, his family, and the Jets locker room as a whole, as well as anyone who is close to Boyd during what is a very difficult time.
