New York Jets fans were given a collective scare last week when it was revealed that rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq would be missing all of OTAs recovering from hernia surgery.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed to reporters last week that the injury was something Sadiq had been dealing with dating back to his final season of college, and that the team wanted it taken care of before the team gets into the thick of the offseason program.
"We knew about (the injury) going through his last year of college, and he dealt with during rookie minicamp," Glenn said in late May.
But the question remains: How much time will Sadiq miss this summer? And will he be ready for the start of training camp?
Rich Cimini says Kenyon Sadiq will be 100% by the start of training camp
On the Jets Collective show, ESPN's Rich Cimini reported that Sadiq is expected to be fully healthy and ready to participate once training camp officially starts in July.
"He will be ready for training camp. I've been told there's absolutely no doubt he will be ready for training camp. He was there yesterday. He was on the sideline watching every drill. I'm sure he's taking the mental reps, like coaches love to use that phrase, taking mental reps."Rich Cimini
Cimini added that there are some drawbacks. Sadiq will be behind some of his Jets teammates who are participating in OTAs. He still hasn't caught passes from starting quarterback Geno Smith, and needs to start nailing down his route running.
But the glass-half-full approach here is that Sadiq will be able to hit the ground running in training camp and will have the opportunity to get the reps he needs.
The former Oregon Duck is expected to have a fairly sizable role within the Jets' offense. Despite already having 2025 second-round pick Mason Taylor on the roster, Sadiq brings a level of freaky athleticism at the tight end position that New York has never seen.
Hopefully, the time missed in May won't matter much when the 16th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft is catching passes from Smith come September.
