The New York Jets took a pass catcher at No. 16 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, but not the one everyone expected. Instead of opting for a wide receiver, the Jets instead nabbed Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq.
It was an interesting choice, with wide receivers like Makai Lemon, Omar Cooper Jr., and Denzel Boston still on the board. But the uber-athletic tight end was the best of the bunch according to the Jets' front office, and he'll be donning the Green & White in 2026.
In the aftermath of the draft pick, Sadiq met with reporters, where he revealed his excitement about coming to New York, and he feels he's joining an organization that's trending in the right direction.
Hopefully, with the help of players like Sadiq and No. 2 overall pick David Bailey, the Jets will, in fact, be moving in the right direction.
Kenyon Sadiq can't help but be excited about becoming a New York Jet
On a video call with reporters, Sadiq couldn't help himself as he gushed about joining the Jets and moving to New York.
"It's special...My sister currently lives in New York, so I'm happy to get down there. I'm beyond excited, super grateful. I mean, David Bailey said already, man, that this organization is trending in the right direction. You know, I'm just a piece that can help, and I'm ready to help, and whatever the team needs me to do, I'm willing."Kenyon Sadiq
Sounds like the Oregon tight end may get an assist from his family as he moves to the New York-New Jersey area.
On the field, Sadiq is excited to get to work with his new coaching staff. He knows he has aspects of his game to work on, and he addressed his biggest issue at Oregon last season, drops.
"Yeah, six drops on the season. No, it's definitely uncharacteristic. If you go watch those drops, they're the easy ones, man. So improving hand-eye coordination has been huge for me. I'm just strengthening my eyes, strengthening my mental."Kenyon Sadiq
It's nice to see Sadiq understand the weaknesses in his game and plan on working towards addressing them. We'll see if he can rein those hands in throughout his first season in the NFL.
