The New York Jets are back at MetLife Stadium again this Sunday for their Week 2 matchup with the Buffalo Bills. The Jets opened the year with a heartbreaking 34-32 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in front of their home crowd, but the performance left plenty of reasons for optimism moving forward.

Justin Fields was fantastic in his Jets debut, the offensive line turned in one of its best showings in recent memory, and the team's overall offensive blueprint for success this season was on full display.

The Bills, however, come in riding a wave of momentum after last week’s Sunday Night Football classic. Buffalo stunned the Baltimore Ravens in a 41-40 last-second thriller, a game that already feels like an early-season turning point for Sean McDermott’s team.

They’ll arrive in East Rutherford looking to keep that energy rolling against a division rival. The Bills have won eight of their last 10 against the Jets, with their most recent loss coming in the infamous 2023 season opener in which Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles.

The Jets know they face a tall task, but some believe this team has the ability to pull off the stunning upset. The blueprint is there, and the stage is set for another dramatic afternoon at MetLife.

The Jets have ruled out three players due to injury: running back/kick returner Kene Nwangwu (hamstring), defensive tackle Jay Tufele (illness), and wide receiver Josh Reynolds (hamstring). Cornerback Michael Carter II (shoulder) and tight end Mason Taylor (ankle) are listed as questionable.

Carter and Taylor are expected to play despite their injuries, as both were full participants in practice on Friday. The Bills will be without star defensive tackle Ed Oliver, who has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

Who are the official inactives for both the Jets and the Bills today? We've got you covered.

Full inactives list for New York Jets in Week 2

  • RB Kene Nwangwu
  • WR Josh Reynolds
  • DT Jay Tufele
  • TE Jelani Woods
  • OT Esa Pole
  • DE Tyler Baron

The Jets will have new kick returners in Week 2 after Kene Nwangwu was ruled out with a hamstring injury. The Jets signed former wide receiver Isaiah Williams off the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad last week, and he joins Arian Smith and Isaiah Davis as the expected candidates to handle return duties.

Starting wide receiver Josh Reynolds is also out with a hamstring injury. The Jets will turn to the likes of Tyler Johnson, Arian Smith, and Allen Lazard, who was a healthy scratch in Week 1, to replace him.

Defensive tackle Jay Tufele missed practice all week with an illness and is inactive for today's game. That allows Leonard Taylor III, who was a healthy scratch last week, to receive a few snaps against Buffalo.

Backup edge rusher Braiden McGregor is active this week in place of rookie Tyler Baron, who struggled in his NFL debut on Sunday. Offensive tackle Esa Pole and tight end Jelani Woods are both inactive again as well.

  • CB Taron Johnson
  • S Jordan Hancock
  • LB Shaq Thompson
  • DT Ed Oliver
  • DE Landon Jackson
  • WR Curtis Samuel
  • OT Chase Lundt

The Bills will be without the centerpiece of their defensive line, as Ed Oliver is out with an ankle injury. Oliver didn't practice on Thursday or Friday and could miss multiple weeks with the injury.

Expect to see plenty of rookies T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker, both of whom struggled mightily in their NFL debuts this past Sunday. This is a major loss for Buffalo.

The Bills also won't have standout nickel cornerback Taron Johnson, who was listed as questionable with a quad injury. Another huge loss for Buffalo's defense. Expect Cam Lewis to start in his place.
