Part of the reason the NY Jets' extremely disappointing 2024 season has felt even more crushing for those in the tri-state area is the fact the rival New York Giants have been even worse. The entire city has been covered in a stink that won't wash off quickly.

While the Jets are in the middle of one of the most disappointing seasons in NFL history after a 3-10 start with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, the Giants have lost eight straight games and are well on their way to a top-three pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. This city's two teams are pathetic.

While this city is no stranger to bad football, as the Jets have been the Jets for years and the Giants once had a very Jets-like playoff drought that almost lasted two decades, the record is showing that this year is even more painful than any past New York season.

The Jets and Giants have a combined 5-21 record, good for a .192 winning percentage. If this percentage holds for the rest of the year, the two teams will set a new record for the lowest combined Jets-Giants winning percentage in any season to date.

Jets and Giants could set record for worst New York football season

Even in 1996, which was the black hole of Jets football, Rich Kotite's 1-15 season was offseason by Dan Reeves' Giants winning six games in what would be his final year with the team. 2021 came close, as the Jets and Giants both won four games in Robert Saleh's debut season and Joe Judge's swan song.

The worst season before this for both teams was 1976. The Giants and Jets both went 3-11, but it was worse for the Jets (as always). This was Lou Holtz's debut season. After unsuccessfully trying to run the veer in the pros and making his players sing a fight song, Holtz resigned with one game left in the season, saying God didn't put him on Earth to coach in the pros.

Both teams will have a chance to turn their fortunes around quickly, however. The Jets will still have a very strong roster that could take steps forward with good coaching and QB play, and the Giants could earn the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Jets and Giants are two of the most underperforming, wretched teams in the league, furthering the idea there is some sort of paranormal specter hanging over this city's football teams. One of them has to eventually break through and fix it, right?
