Aaron Glenn took the podium at One Jets Drive Wednesday afternoon and delivered some not-so-great news regarding New York Jets injuries. Breece Hall, Mason Taylor, Adonai Mitchell, and Dylan Parham would not be practicing, putting their status in doubt for Week 4 in Chicago.
But he did have one positive update, and that was on former All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Glenn said Fitzpatrick will be back at practice on Wednesday and has a "really good chance" of suiting up against the Bears, via The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt.
Fitzpatrick, who injured his groin on the Tennessee Titans' first offensive drive in Week 1, has been an absentee in the Jets' last two games. His return to the secondary would be a massive development.
We'll see how his practice status progresses throughout the week, but it seems like the Jets are on track to get back a major presence on the back end of their defense.
New York Jets desperately need Minkah Fitzpatrick back
The Jets' defense has been in a bit of a scramble mode since Fitzpatrick went down with an injury. Dane Belton has been forced to move around and play the former Miami Dolphins safety's role, and Andre Cisco was thrust into the starting lineup.
It hasn't been disastrous. Through three games, the Jets' pass defense ranks third in the NFL, allowing only 171 passing yards per game to opposing quarterbacks, but in theory, they should only get better with a player of Fitzpatrick's caliber back in the fold.
It will put everyone back to their natural spots on the defense and allow Fitzpatrick to be the roaming chess piece that the coaching staff envisioned him to be throughout the summer. That is, if he does, in fact, suit back up on Sunday.
Other New York Jets injury notes from Aaron Glenn
Aside from telling reporters Fitzpatrick would be limited in practice on Wednesday, Glenn also added that Kenyon Sadiq, Jeremy Ruckert, and Kene Nwangwu would all be on the practice field despite dealing with minor injuries.
Sadiq got knocked around a few times throughout the Jets' Week 3 matchup against the Lions. He was slow to get up after a touchdown grab and hobbled off the field after several catches during the game. Hopefully, it's nothing serious.
The development that Nwangwu is back on the practice field is a positive one. The former All-Pro returner hasn't appeared in a game yet this season for the Jets, and his return could provide a spark for an otherwise lackluster return game.
