Sitting at 2-6, the New York Jets' season is hanging on by a thread, and it doesn't look like it's getting any better. On Sunday, they travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs, and then the following week they will play host to the Buffalo Bills.

There's a real possibility of this team dropping five games in a row and ending up at 2-8. With three first-round picks, all of which currently reside in the top 10, the focus is already beginning to shift to the offseason.

Some fans have been following along with the college football season from the get-go, scouting the players who the Jets may look to take in the 2027 NFL Draft, but if you haven't done that yet and are looking to begin to dip your toe in the college football waters, there is no better time than this week.

New York Jets fans should be locked into Notre Dame vs. Miami

This Saturday, No. 1 Miami is taking on No. 11 Notre Dame, and both quarterbacks in this game are very likely first-round selections. Miami's Darian Mensah has his team off to an undefeated 8-0 start, while CJ Carr and Notre Dame are 7-1, with their lone loss coming to BYU two weeks ago.

Mensah, who played quarterback for Duke last season, has had a stellar first year in Miami. He has an impressive completion percentage of 80.7%, 2,425 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and just one interception. He's averaging over 300 yards a game and has garnered first-round pick conversations.

As everyone is aware, there's more to drafting a quarterback than just looking at their numbers. Mensah's best traits are his accuracy and anticipation. He's not the biggest guy, listed at six-foot-three and just 205 lbs, but his processing and accuracy stand out when watching him.

As for Carr, he's completed 66.7 percent of his passes, with 18 touchdowns and just one interception this year. This is Carr's second season as the Fighting Irish's quarterback, and he has shown nice signs of progress in year two.

Carr is similar in stature to Mensah, listed at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds. His best attributes are his timing and rhythm as a passer, and he does a good job of protecting the football.

CJ Carr vs. Darian Mensah analysis

Honestly, both Carr and Mensah are similar prospects. They're slightly undersized, they're pocket passers, and neither of their arms pop off the page. If you're a person who likes the quarterback with all the traits, then it's more likely you'd be a Drew Mestemaker fan.

Carr and Mensah could be labeled as "boring" or "safe," but I'd argue there's a higher floor with that kind of prospect.

This is a good test for both guys, to be honest. A big gripe with Carr and Mensah is the level of competition that Notre Dame and Miami have played so far. Miami has steamrolled most of their competition, and they'll be down their best receiver, Malachi Toney, for this game. Can Mensah rise to the occasion against a tougher opponent and without his number one guy?

As for Carr, he didn't play well against BYU in Notre Dame's lone loss this year. For him, he has to prove that he can handle the steeper competition, too.

The Jets are very likely to be drafting a quarterback in April, and over the next few months, you're going to hear these two names a lot. With them going head-to-head this week, it's the perfect opportunity for Jets fans to familiarize themselves with these players.
