Jets fans have no choice but to show up for Week 2 after Garrett Wilson's comments

Do you think Garrett Wilson knows just how much New York Jets fans love him? Like, seriously. There isn't another player on the Jets roster who has said and done all the right things from the day they stepped into the building like the former Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Wilson may not have been voted captain in 2026, but when he speaks, everyone should listen. That goes for his teammates and fans, too, which is why it was all the more important when he set his expectations for the Jets' home opener on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

"The fans, I expect to feel a lot of energy in that stadium. They always bring that energy, you know, opening day... and we're coming off a dub." Wilson told reporters. "We haven't been 1-0 coming back home... that hasn't been our reality every year."

The vibes haven't been this high coming off Week 1 in who knows how long for the Jets, and Wilson knows it. It's why he's expecting a major turnout at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, and hopefully the fans will do their part and bring the noise.

Dating back to Wilson's rookie season with the Jets, New York has a 12-22 record at MetLife Stadium, and that's just not good enough. You're supposed to have an advantage on your home turf, and the Jets just flat-out don't.

In order to change that, they're going to need to start stacking wins, and that can begin this weekend against the Packers. Wilson knows the opportunity the Jets have in front of them, especially with the way the fans took over the stadium this past Sunday in Nashville.

"I love our fans... they're wired a little different. Their loyalty is never in question. And there hasn't been much to root for, and we're all aware of that. And we owe it to them. And that's just the mindset. I wouldn't say there's any extra. My job is to go out and play good football, and all the fans will feel good going home. And that's kind of the mindset.

Despite the forecast of heavy rain in Northern New Jersey on Sunday, there should still be plenty of Jets fans in the building, raucously rooting for their 1-0 football team. Hopefully, after hearing Wilson's comments, they'll be showing up ready to bring the energy the team is looking for.
