Entering the 2026 NFL Draft, pass catcher was a massive need for the New York Jets, and they made an emphasis on addressing that weakness with their premium draft picks.

At No. 16 overall, they selected Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq, a freak athlete who figures to take the Jets offense to another level with his versatility.

Towards the end of the first round, the Jets traded up to No. 30 overall to nab Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr., marking their first wide receiver addition of the offseason.

Cooper enters a wide receiver room with little depth behind himself, Garrett Wilson, and Adonai Mitchell. He figures to have a good opportunity to carve out a role for himself early on in New York.

But will it be enough to earn consideration for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award?

Jets' Omar Cooper Jr. considered a long shot for Offensive Rookie of the Year

According to ESPN's Ben Solak, the Jets' rookie wide receiver is highly unlikely to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, due to several factors that don't necessarily have to do with himself as a player.

"He has almost no incumbent challenge as targets at receiver, as Adonai Mitchell is the best candidate to steal some of his snaps. However, the tight end duo of Mason Taylor and Kenyon Sadiq, and the presence of running back Breece Hall do put a damper on his expected volume. Cooper is a tier below players such as Concepcion and Lemon as far as talent goes, and it's hard to see him producing the big games necessary to steal this award from a starting quarterback or productive back."

To be fair, Cooper has better odds than Sadiq, who isn't even listed due to the fact that a tight end hasn't won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award since Mike Ditka in 1961.

In all likelihood, Cooper really does have a long road ahead of him if he hopes to win OROY. If he were stepping into a situation where he was the No. 1 option, he would have a better shot.

But with the likes of Wilson, Mitchell, and possibly even Sadiq ahead of him in the pecking order, it will be tough for him to produce enough volume to even be one of the top favorites.
