Jets officially dodge Micah Parsons bullet with latest injury update

The New York Jets were dealt a tough hand with their 2026 regular-season schedule, particularly in the first month or so of the season.

They kick the season off in Nashville Week 1, facing former head coach Robert Saleh's new-look Tennessee Titans. That one should be an even tilt.

But from Week 2 to Week 4, the Jets face a gauntlet of NFC North playoff-caliber teams. They host the Green Bay Packers at MetLife Stadium, then travel to Detroit to face the Lions and Chicago to face the Bears in Week 3 and Week 4.

It will be tough enough for the Jets to get out of that four-game stretch over .500, but they may have just received a gift in the form of a Micah Parsons update.

Micah Parsons to start season on PUP, meaning Jets won't see him Week 2

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, parroting a report from Packers insider Rob Demovsky, confirmed that the Packers' best defensive player, Parsons, will not be on the field when they face the Jets in Week 2 of the 2026 season.

Parsons, who tore his ACL in December 2025, is still recovering from the surgery and will ease his way back into the flow of things to start the 2026 season.

"Packers star Micah Parsons makes clear that he'll begin the 2026 season on the PUP list, offering a target of mid-October until he's on the field. With a long career ahead, no shortcuts."

Starting on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, a player is automatically ruled out for at least the first four games of the season. The Jets, of course, are playing Green Bay in the second game of the year.

It's certainly a bad break from the Packers, but they are still by no means an easy out, especially for the Jets.

Green Bay, without Parsons last season, still took the Bears to the brink in the wildcard round of the NFL playoffs. They have one of the best coaches in football in Matt LaFleur and a dangerous quarterback in Jordan Love.

It's not like the Jets will be favored going into the game, but they certainly have a better chance now with Parsons out.
