Jets' DC search proves major Aaron Glenn organizational change that fans will love

No leaks!

The New York Jets have long worn the label of the NFL's resident laughingstock, but one of the team's most recent eras may have been the most embarrassing in franchise history.

From the Zach Wilson saga to the Aaron Rodgers disaster, what made that stretch so humiliating wasn’t just the losing on Sundays. Instead, it was everything that happened off the field.

Constant media leaks defined the organization, whether it was Woody Johnson reportedly using Madden ratings to make personnel decisions, Wilson essentially refusing to play football, or Rodgers dominating headlines for all the wrong reasons.

While the on-field product didn’t necessarily improve in Aaron Glenn’s first season in 2025, the Jets did manage to clean up one glaring issue. For the first time in years, the outside noise calmed down a bit, and the leaks all but disappeared.

As it turns out, that wasn’t simply a byproduct of certain members of the organization departing (cough Rodgers cough). Instead, it was the result of a deliberate effort by Glenn and his staff to make sure that what happens inside the building stays inside the building.

Aaron Glenn has made it a priority to eliminate Jets media leaks

SNY's Connor Hughes reported on a recent episode of Final Jets Drive that the Jets have made a concerted and collective effort to eliminate leaks within the organization, and nowhere has that been more apparent than with the team's defensive coordinator search.

"The Jets have told all of us: do not tell the media who is interviewing or where you’re interviewing. We do not want this. We want to keep it completely & totally in-house."

Reports have been few and far between throughout the Jets’ defensive coordinator search. Outside of Wink Martindale, who is widely viewed as the favorite for the job, the only other candidates publicly reported to have drawn interview requests prior to the Jets' officially releasing names were Daronte Jones and Mathieu Aruajo.

The latter was reported by a Dolphins insider just hours before the Jets officially released their list of eight candidates last Friday. While national and local reporters around the league have routinely leaked coaching interviews for other teams, the Jets revealed all eight names at once, and did so themselves.

Another week has passed since the Jets released their initial list of candidates, and the only known finalist for the job is interim defensive coordinator Chris Harris, who reportedly participated in a second interview with the team early in the week. That's it — nothing else has been reported.

So while some Jets fans may be begging beat reporters for any scrap of news about the team’s defensive coordinator search, it’s worth remembering that the silence is intentional and part of a coordinated effort by the organization to keep the process in-house.

The leaks are gone, and so too is the outside noise. It won’t matter unless the on-field results improve, but it’s still a step in the right direction.
