The New York Jets will return from their bye week today to take on the Cleveland Browns in Week 10. The Jets are fresh off their first victory of the season in a thrilling 39-38 win over the Cincinnati Bengals a couple of weeks ago.
But more importantly, the Jets are just days removed from one of the most shocking and significant days in franchise history. Last Tuesday, they traded away All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner and star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams in a pair of deadline deals that completely altered the trajectory of the organization.
The Jets will now look to move forward in a new era without two of their three franchise cornerstones. But what about the third? Teams inquired about the availability of superstar wide receiver Garrett Wilson at the deadline, but the Jets ultimately had no interest.
The Jets made it clear that Wilson, who has missed the team’s last two games with a knee injury, wasn’t on the market. That settles one question. The next is whether he’ll actually be on the field when the Jets face the Browns later today.
Is Garrett Wilson playing for the Jets in Week 10?
Wilson is listed as questionable ahead of today's Week 10 matchup with a knee injury. The former Ohio State star returned to practice for the first time in weeks on Wednesday and was upgraded to a full participant on Friday.
All indications are that Wilson will suit up for today's game against the Browns. Wilson told reporters on Thursday that he plans to play this week, and head coach Aaron Glenn also indicated that all Jets players are trending toward being available.
The Jets should have their WR1 back on the field in Week 10, which is massive news for an offense that has struggled mightily at times this season, due in large part to inconsistent quarterback play and a dismal receiving corps.
Still, the Jets somehow put up nearly 40 points in their last game with Justin Fields under center and Tyler Johnson as their top receiver. Granted, that came against a dreadful Bengals defense. This Browns matchup will be a far greater test.
That’s why Wilson’s return comes at the perfect time for a Jets team looking to build momentum, string together consecutive wins, and avoid stumbling out of their bye week.
The Jets added the likes of Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie to their wide receiver room since their last game, although it's unclear if either will be active in Week 10.
Wilson, however, is expected to be back with the starting offense, and his return couldn’t come at a better time.
