It's all but official.

The New York Jets have limped to the finish line of what has been a challenging first season under head coach Aaron Glenn. The Jets have lost four straight games by 23+ points ahead of their Week 18 regular-season finale against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

The team’s repeated blowout losses had reignited speculation that Glenn could be fired at season’s end, but those conversations were officially put to rest on Saturday. Glenn isn’t going anywhere.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed this weekend that "the Jets are bringing back Aaron Glenn for a second season as head coach." Changes are expected to be made to Glenn's staff, but the former Lions defensive coordinator's job is not in danger.

This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who has followed the Jets closely this season. Rapoport is simply confirming what every Jets reporter has been saying for months. Glenn will be the Jets' head coach next season — and that was never really in doubt.

The Jets will not fire Aaron Glenn this offseason

It's safe to say that Glenn's first year with the Jets has not necessarily gone according to plan. His hand-picked bridge quarterback, Justin Fields, put together the worst season of his career and was a colossal failure of a signing.

Glenn fired his appointed defensive coordinator, Steve Wilks, before his first season with the team even came to an end. The Jets have won just three games, and you can make a strong case that all three victories were largely due to special teams.

The Jets have devolved into a wholly uncompetitive football team, although it's also fair to suggest that some of that has been by design. In reality, Glenn's job was secure once owner Woody Johnson signed off on the midseason trades of Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams.

The Jets may have entered the 2025 season hoping to compete and make a surprise playoff push, but by the trade deadline, it had become painfully clear the team was far from where it had hoped to be.

While the organization may not be trying their hardest to lose games, they're certainly not trying their hardest to win them, and they haven't really in weeks. The weekly product on the field over the last month or so has been a direct result of intentional tanking, so to speak.

The Jets will give Glenn another offseason to further reshape the roster in his vision. He will have ample draft capital and cap space at his disposal, but everyone in the organization understands that the on-field product must be significantly improved in 2026.

Glenn may very well enter the 2026 season with a hotter seat than most head coaches, but at least for the time being, he's not going anywhere. Glenn will be back.
