The NFL is set to unveil the full slate of the 2026 schedule on Thursday evening, but until then, fans are left to hold out and hang onto every rumor and leak that comes their way.

Of course, some of the games are being released in advance, including the New York Giants Week 1 matchup. Big Blue is set to host their NFC East rival, the Dallas Cowboys, on Sunday Night Football in the first game of the John Harbaugh era.

Now, what does that have to do with the New York Jets? As you likely know, the Jets and the Giants share MetLife Stadium as their home field, and considering the G-Men are set to kick their season off at home in Week 1, the Jets are likely to be playing away for their first matchup of the season.

Who could the Jets' opponent be? That, we don't know quite yet. But there are a few reasonable guesses and deductions that can be made from recent history.

Jets likely to kick off 2026 season on the road thanks to Giants-Cowboys tilt

Now, there is the possibility that the Jets could kick their season off at home on Monday Night Football in Week 1, but considering Gang Green didn't put the best product on the field in 2025, that seems unlikely.

What seems more likely is the Jets serving as another team's home opening opponent, and it feels like the favorite has to be the Tennessee Titans.

Over the last few seasons, the NFL schedule-makers have enjoyed setting the Jets up for a grudge match with a face.

Last year, it was Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers coming to town less than a calendar year after the Jets cut ties with the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

In 2024, New York travelled to San Francisco, pitting then-head coach Robert Saleh against his former team, the 49ers.

For the 2021 season, the Jets travelled to Carolina to face the Panthers, who had just acquired former No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold in a trade earlier that offseason.

This year, it would feel poetic for the Jets to travel down to Nashville, Tennessee, to face off against their former head coach, Saleh, in what would be the home opener for the Titans.

Of course, nothing is for sure, as of now, and there haven't even been any rumors or leaks about the Jets' Week 1 opponent.

But facing the Titans would be fitting considering recent history, and be an interesting grudge match between the Jets and their former head coach.
