The Seattle Seahawks are taking care of one of the most talented players in the NFL, inking reigning Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba to a record-breaking contract extension, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
It's a four-year, $168.6 million deal for the Super Bowl champion, with $120 million guaranteed and a $42.15 million average annual salary. He's now the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, surpassing Ja'Marr Chase.
As the extensions for young, star wideouts continue to roll in, the deal the New York Jets signed Garrett Wilson to looks all the better. The former Ohio State Buckeye signed a four-year, $130 million deal last summer.
Wilson doesn't have the accolades that Smith-Njigba has, but he's still, without a doubt, one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, and it's starting to look like the Jets got an incredible deal on his contract.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba contract looks like a steal compared to Jets' Garrett Wilson
With some of the other contracts handed out this offseason, like Alec Pierce's four-year, $116 million extension with the Indianapolis Colts, the wide receiver market seems like it's on the rise, and with the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year locked down until 2030, the Jets have nothing to worry about with their in-house star.
Wilson has never racked up nearly 1,800 receiving yards or been a Pro Bowler, but it can't be denied that he's one of the best pass-catching threats in the NFL.
Over his first three years in the league, Wilson never failed to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving, with the likes of Zach Wilson, Mike White, Tim Boyle, and 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers throwing him the football. He likely would've gotten there in 2025, too, with Justin Fields as his quarterback had it not been for his unfortunate knee injury.
Despite not catching a pass after Week 6, Wilson still led the Jets receiving with 395 yards, a testament to how important he is to the team's offense, and also just how bad the unit was as a whole in 2025.
He's not making as much as a Smith-Njigba, but Wilson is just as important to his team as any other superstar in the NFL, and Jets fans can be happy knowing they have their best player on a reasonable contract until the end of the decade.
