The New York Jets will enter the 2025 season with multiple new faces on offense, including quarterback Justin Fields and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand. After a dreadful 2024 campaign, New York has gone through a complete identity shift on offense.
The Jets finished 2024 as one of the worst rushing offenses in football. New York ranked last in rushing attempts and 31st in rushing yards.
As 2025 nears, it's clear the Jets are going to be a run-first team led by Justin Fields and Breece Hall, which could lead to a forgotten player and position being utilized.
Ethan Greenberg on the Official New York Jets Podcast said Jets fans shouldn't "sleep on" Andrew Beck entering training camp and noted that he saw reps at both fullback and tight end during the spring.
Greenberg also mentioned Beck's experience as a potential factor in his chances of making the 53-man roster and playing a role in the offense.
Andrew Beck could emerge on offense for the NY Jets in 2025
Andrew Beck was the first signing of the Darren Mougey era, with whom he has a connection going back to their days in Denver. Beck spent his first four NFL seasons with the Broncos.
Since then, Beck spent the 2023 season with the Texans before spending part of 2024 with the Packers, where he eventually signed on with the Texans in November of last year.
Throughout his six-year NFL career so far, Beck has seen most of his playing time at fullback and tight end, where he lines up as an in-line. In 15 games with the Texans during the 2023 season, Beck played 551 total snaps with 184 coming out of the backfield and 109 as an in-line tight end.
The 29-year-old has tallied 25 receptions for 214 yards and three touchdowns in his career, while he has registered just eight carries across 56 games played. If Beck wants to make the 53-man roster, it will most likely come at fullback.
While the Jets didn't have a rostered fullback last season, new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand is familiar with the position from his time in Detroit. Jason Cabinda spent five seasons with the Lions from 2019-2023, appearing in 46 games with the team.
Engstrand crossed paths with Cabinda from 2020-2023, where the fullback appeared in 42 games during that stretch. Over that time, the Lions turned into one of the best rushing offenses in the NFL.
New York should not only mirror the Lions' offense in certain areas, but they also feature similarities to the Ravens, who have used Patrick Ricard at fullback since 2017.
The Jets should feature a heavy dose of read options with a dual-threat quarterback in Justin Fields and a number one running back in Breece Hall. While Fields and Hall aren't on the level of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, the offensive outlook and structure are similar.
With the run-heavy approach taking over in 2025, Beck is a name to watch at fullback to help the Jets' run game.
