It’s draft season, which also means it’s smokescreen season. This time of year, reports are flying from every direction, and it’s hard to know what’s real and what’s calculated noise. Teams posture, rumors swirl, and narratives shift by the hour. The New York Jets are no exception.

But every now and then, a report surfaces that feels a little too specific to ignore, and the latest buzz suggests the Jets might be eyeing one polarizing draft prospect. That prospect is Penn State tight end Tyler Warren.

Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda reported on Friday that the Jets are "infatuated with Warren" and intend to set up multiple meetings with the highly touted tight end prospect. Pauline mocked Warren to the Jets at No. 7 overall, although admitting he “loathes” making the pick.

Warren to the Jets has been gaining momentum in recent weeks, and the Penn State standout appears to be high on their list of potential targets. According to Pauline, it’s more than just speculation — it’s a real possibility.

NY Jets reportedly 'infatuated' with Tyler Warren in the 2025 NFL Draft

A former high school quarterback, Warren spent his first three years at Penn State as a backup before taking over as the starter in 2023. He put up modest numbers that year, finishing with 34 catches for 422 yards and seven touchdowns.

It wasn’t until 2024 that Warren truly broke out. This season, he emerged as one of the most dynamic playmakers in all of college football. He totaled 104 catches for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns, earning the John Mackey Award, given to the nation’s top tight end.

That season helped Warren skyrocket up draft boards to the point where he's seen as an expected top-15 pick in this year's draft. The Jets have been a popular landing spot for Warren in many mock drafts, and it's easy to see why.

Starting tight end Tyler Conklin signed with the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday, officially ending his three-year run with the organization. The Jets signed former Charger Stone Smartt in free agency, but with just 31 career catches to his name, he's likely not seen internally as a starting option.

The only other tight ends on the roster are former third-round pick Jeremy Ruckert and the likes of Zack Kuntz and Neal Johnson, who were each signed to futures deals in January.

The Jets need a tight end, but would they really consider drafting one as high as No. 7 overall, especially in a class this deep and talented? That remains to be seen and has become a hot topic of debate among Jets fans, particularly after the team passed on Brock Bowers just a year ago.

Warren would add a new dimension to the Jets’ offense, bringing a rare blend of athleticism, size, and versatility. His ability to stretch the field, create mismatches, and contribute as both a receiver and blocker could give the unit a much-needed spark.

If Pauline’s report is accurate, it seems the Jets feel the same way. But is this just another pre-draft smokescreen — like the buzz around Bowers last year — or is their interest legitimate? We likely won’t know for sure until draft night.
