The Davante Adams era was a failure for the NY Jets. The Jets officially parted ways with the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver on Tuesday, releasing him prior to the start of free agency after just 11 games played with the team.

The Jets will look to go in a different direction in 2025 with Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey leading the charge, and that direction does not include Adams and Aaron Rodgers. The era of the "Green Bay Jets" has come to a premature end.

But while the Jets will look to make wholesale changes to their wide receiver room, Adams will be looking to catch on with a new team. Even at 32 years old, Adams proved last season that he's still one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.

Adams finished the 2024 season with 85 catches for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns, most of which came with the Jets. Several teams have already been linked to him in recent days, but what if his next destination is a familiar one? What if he returns home to Green Bay?

Davante Adams could sign with the Packers after his NY Jets release

The Green Bay Packers could be in the market for wide receiver help this offseason. Jayden Reed has emerged as an exciting young playmaker, but he isn't viewed as a true No. 1 option, and the rest of the team's wide receiver room has question marks.

Christian Watson has battled injuries throughout his career and tore his ACL in January. His status for the 2025 season remains in question. Meanwhile, Romeo Doubs was suspended midseason in 2024 following an off-field incident and has also dealt with concussion problems.

The Packers could use a surefire No. 1 wide receiver to complete their receiver room, and with Tee Higgins and Chris Godwin unlikely to hit the open market, Adams is expected to be the top name available.

A second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Adams spent the first eight years of his career with the Packers, making five straight Pro Bowls and earning consecutive first-team All-Pro honors before leaving to join the Las Vegas Raiders.

Adams still has plenty of supporters in Green Bay and would instantly provide the star wide receiver they’ve been searching for. While reports suggest he prefers a team on the West Coast to be closer to home in California, if he doesn’t head out west, the Packers are a logical landing spot.

Of course, this wouldn't be a situation where Rodgers and Adams are a package deal. There's approximately a zero percent chance Rodgers will find himself back in Green Bay this offseason. Adams, however, makes plenty of sense for the Packers.

Green Bay may not be the most likely destination for Adams following his Jets release, but it definitely shouldn't be ruled out. There's a very real chance we could see a blockbuster Packers reunion for the longtime Green Bay wideout in the coming weeks.
