The New York Jets have been mulling the possibility of a Breece Hall trade since at least the 2025 NFL Draft. Sources confirmed to The Jet Press in April that the Jets had preliminary conversations with teams about Hall's availability in the weeks leading up to the event.
The Jets ultimately passed on trading their standout running back, but a Hall deal has remained a strong possibility in the months since. Now, just weeks from the trade deadline, that outcome feels more likely than ever.
Hall did his part to accelerate the process on Monday when he posted a photo to Instagram with a caption that included the hashtag "Free 20." That's certainly not going to convince the Jets to keep him around.
A Hall trade has become increasingly likely as the Jets' season has progressed, and after his latest social media post, it's starting to feel like an inevitability. It would be a surprise if Hall were on the Jets' roster this time next month.

The conversation around Hall's future is a complicated one, and it's likely a situation where there is no right answer. You can make a compelling case for both sides.
On one hand, it feels almost irresponsible for the Jets to consider trading Hall given the current state of their offense. Injuries to both Braelon Allen and now Garrett Wilson only complicate matters.
The Jets can barely function as an offense right now. Imagine what this unit would look like with Isaiah Davis and Khalil Herbert leading the backfield, especially during the weeks Wilson may be sidelined due to a knee injury.
Hall is also putting together a bounce-back 2025 season and has genuinely looked much-improved after a disastrous 2024 campaign. He's still only 24 years old and is currently the focal point of the team's offense.
But the opposing argument is just as strong. Hall is set to be a free agent in the offseason and will likely be looking to receive a hefty payday, somewhere in the range of James Cook money. Are the Jets really in a position to be paying $12 million per year to a running back?
Hall is also far from a proven, slam-dunk commodity at this stage. The former Iowa State star was brutal in 2024, finishing with a team-worst nine drops and six fumbles, all while his rushing average plummeted to 4.2 yards per carry.
While Hall has been better in 2025, he still doesn't look like the same player he was in 2022 and 2023, the latter of which he finished top-four in the NFL in total scrimmage yards. There are genuine red flags associated with paying Hall the money he will likely be seeking.
If the Jets don't plan to extend Hall, it makes sense to recoup an asset for him via the trade market. The Jets likely won't be in a position to receive compensatory selections this offseason anyway, so trading him now might be the only chance they have to receive something in return.
Ultimately, Hall’s future in New York looks murkier than ever, and his latest social media post seems to directly contradict his recent comments about wanting to stay with the Jets.
Jets fans should prepare for what is starting to feel inevitable. Breece Hall likely isn't long for Florham Park.
