The NFL’s legal tampering period, ahead of free agency, started on Monday, and the New York Jets have quickly gotten involved. The team has already traded for and extended Minkah Fitzpatrick, and agreed to deals with multiple other players, and people are taking notice.

One of those people taking notice is veteran running back Breece Hall, and he reacted to the team’s moves on Monday with an interesting social media post.

Hall pointed out that the Jets were committing a lot of money to different players, and attached three laughing emojis to his statement. Everyone immediately recognized the point the running back was making, even if he didn’t explicitly say it.

This was seemingly Hall’s way of acknowledging New York’s willingness to hand out contracts, despite the team placing the franchise tag on him.

Hall, after four productive seasons in New York, was set to be a free agent this offseason. After the Jets opted against moving the running back ahead of the trade deadline, it seemed like the team would agree on a long-term extension with Hall. However, the two sides were unable to get that deal done ahead of the franchise-tag deadline, so the Jets used the tag on him.

Players are rarely happy to play on the franchise tag, and Hall is seemingly no different. After the news broke that he was being tagged, the running back immediately took to social media to insist he’s always been the type to bet on himself.

A week later, it’s clear he’s still feeling a way about not getting a long-term deal, especially while watching the team hand out multi-year deals to players who haven’t produced for the franchise yet.

While Hall is currently tagged, there is still the possibility that he and the team can agree to a long-term deal before the start of next season. There is optimism that a long-term extension will be reached before July's deadline. If Hall and the Jets can’t find the same page, the running back will have the option to play on a franchise tag worth $14.293 million in 2026.

While that’s a good single-season salary for a running back, it doesn’t offer the long-term security that players are always seeking. Hall may have to deliver once again in 2026 and set himself up for free agency next offseason.
