Breece Hall may have played his final game as a member of the Jets

Is this the end for Hall and the Jets?

The New York Jets will have decisions to make on a number of internal free agents this offseason, but no player will loom larger than running back Breece Hall. Hall is the Jets' most high-profile pending free agent, and his uncertain future will undoubtedly dominate headlines in the coming months.

But before the two sides enter an offseason certain to feature plenty of discussion, the Jets still have their Week 18 regular-season finale against the Buffalo Bills to prepare for. Hall, however, will not be taking the field alongside his teammates.

The Jets downgraded Hall to out on Saturday as the star running back nurses a knee injury. Hall missed practice on Wednesday before returning in a limited capacity on Thursday and Friday, but he always felt like a long shot to play.

The Jets may not be explicitly trying to lose games, but they are clearly not doing everything possible to win them. The team has chosen to rest many of its key players down the stretch, and Hall — one week after surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in his career — is no exception.

Has Breece Hall played his final game with the Jets?

Hall finishes a bounce-back 2025 season with a career-high 1,065 yards and four touchdowns on 4.4 yards per carry, adding 36 catches for 350 yards and a touchdown in the air. Most importantly, Hall cut down on the ball security concerns that plagued him a year ago.

The Iowa State product fumbled six times and led the Jets with a whopping nine drops in 2024, but he only recorded two fumbles and two drops in all of 2025. It's also fair to note that his efficiency plummeted as the Jets' offense deteriorated over the final month or two of the season.

Hall may not have cemented himself as the surefire top-10 running back he once appeared poised to become, but he remains a rock-solid starter who doubles as an effective pass-catcher and is still just 24 years old. He will command a sizable market this offseason.

The Jets are reportedly interested in bringing Hall back this offseason, with indications that the two sides could engage in extension talks. However, it remains unclear whether Hall has any desire to re-sign with the organization, as he has not been shy about voicing his frustrations in the past.

The Jets would also have the option of using either the franchise tag or the transition tag to retain Hall. The franchise tag would lock him in for the 2026 season at a projected cost of $13.642 million, eliminating the possibility of negotiations with other teams.

The seldom-used transition tag, meanwhile, would come in cheaper at $11.067 million and allow Hall to explore free agency while giving the Jets the right to match any offer sheet.

Hall has played his final game of the 2025 season and, quite possibly, the final game of his Jets career. All eyes now turn to the offseason.
