Bleacher Report just had the most ridiculous Garrett Wilson take

They've gotta be joking.

The New York Jets don't have many great players on their roster, but easily the best is wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

He's the Jets' only true star, and he's paid like it. Last summer, Darren Mougey inked him to a four-year, $130 million extension, paying him an annual average salary of $32.5 million. He's the sixth-highest paid wide receiver in the NFL on a per-year basis.

Wilson's stats don't pop off the page. He's never been a Pro Bowler or eclipsed more than 1,200 yards in a season, but he's without a doubt one of the best pass-catching threats in the NFL. In his first three years in the league, he never failed to surpass 1,000 yards, despite playing with quarterbacks like Zach Wilson, Mike White, Tim Boyle, and an over-the-hill Aaron Rodgers.

Somehow, Bleacher Report still seems to think that Wilson is the most overpaid player on the Jets roster.

Bleacher Report with a horrible Garrett Wilson take regarding Jets contract

B/R's Brad Gagnon listed every NFL team's most overpaid player, and he came to the conclusion that Wilson's contract was somehow too big a burden for the Jets to carry.

"He's still technically cheap for now, but that four-year, $130 million extension kicks in next year and Wilson's $32.5 million AAV ranks sixth at the position. The talent and potential are undeniable, but this is still a guy who has never put up 1,200 yards or eight touchdowns in a single season and is making borderline Justin Jefferson money. "
Brag Gagnon

Gagnon completely ignores all context surrounding Wilson's short NFL career and the quarterback play he's had to deal with since coming into the league.

The former first-round pick is the most important player on the Jets roster, and if they hadn't given him that contract, he likely would've demanded a trade out of New York.

The real answer? Linebacker Jamien Sherwood. The Jets inked him to a three-year, $45 million deal right before free agency last year, and it's safe to say the former safety turned linebacker did not live up to that contract in 2025.

Despite being the sixth-highest paid off-ball linebacker, Sherwood was the 35th-ranked linebacker among 88 qualified players in the NFL last season, according to Pro Football Focus.

It boggles the mind how Gagnon looked at the Jets' cap sheet and decided it was Wilson who was making too much money despite Sherwood's struggles on clear display last season.

If anything, Wilson's contract is going to continue to age gracefully, considering other contracts that have been signed recently, like Jaxon Smith-Njigba's and Puka Nacua's incoming extension.
