New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has been pretty transparent about who he expects to play against the Chicago Bears ahead of Week 4. He ruled out multiple players on Friday who aren't going to suit up in Chicago, and said he's "encouraged" that everyone who was limited will play.
That includes tight end Kenyon Sadiq and edge Kingsley Enagbare, who are both designated as questionable heading into Sunday's tilt with the Bears.
Ben Johnson, on the other hand, is keeping things pretty close to the vest. The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs shared that Johnson told reporters, "We'll find out Sunday," regarding who will start at quarterback against the Jets.
One thing is for sure. It won't be Caleb Williams, who is still dealing with a hamstring injury suffered in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings. It will either be youngster Tyson Bagent or grizzled veteran Case Keenum under center against New York.
Johnson even joked that it could be practice squad quarterback Miller Moss getting his first career start. That seems unlikely, but good to see Johnson has a sense of humor.
Who will start at quarterback against the New York Jets in Week 4?
Biggs, who has covered the Bears for The Chicago Tribune since 2001, believes the "best bet" is Bagent. The 26-year-old former undrafted free agent likely would've started against the Philadelphia Eagles this past Monday night, but missed all of practice leading up to the game due to a concussion.
Bagent has four career starts under his belt, all coming during the 2023 season in place of then-injured starter Justin Fields. Throughout his tenure as Chicago's backup, Bagent has completed 65.8% of his passes and thrown for 971 yards. He's tossed three touchdowns to six interceptions.
Chicago clearly has a lot of faith in the Division II product. The Bears inked him to a two-year, $10 million contract just before the start of the 2025 season.
The team's other option, Keenum, looked really good in a spot start in Week 3. It's obvious the Bears are fine playing either quarterback.
Against the Eagles, the 38-year-old journeyman lit it up on the national stage, torching Philadelphia's secondary to the tune of 247 yards and three total touchdowns, completing 70% of his passes.
Whichever quarterback ends up getting the starting nod, they're being coached by one of the brightest offensive minds in all of football in Johnson, and one thing you can trust is the offense operating like a well-oiled machine.
The Jets' defense will have their hands full either way.
