After opening their season with a win over the Tennessee Titans, the New York Jets are now on a two-game skid, losing back-to-back games to the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions, dropping them to 1-2 on the season.
They're set to face their third playoff contender in a row in Week 4, when they travel to Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Bears. It has not been a kind start to the 2026 season for the Jets, who were dealt a rough hand by league schedule makers this past spring.
Luckily for the Jets, there may be one thing working in their favor, as Chicago is likely to be without franchise quarterback Caleb Williams for the Week 4 matchup. Williams suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain in the Bears' Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and is expected to be out for three to four weeks, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
While it's terrible news for Williams and Chicago, it's a stroke of good luck for the Jets, who won't have to worry about the former No. 1 overall pick's electric playmaking ability.
New York Jets likely to avoid facing Caleb Williams in Week 4 vs. Bears
Williams, who was somewhat infamously carted off the field in Week 2 with a towel over his head, was viciously mocked on social media for his reaction to the injury.
As it turns out, the injury was quite serious, and Williams is certainly going to be out for their Week 3 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, according to team doctors, Williams has a long-shot chance to suit up for Week 4.
"This doesn't mean that Williams, whom the Bears have touted as a quick healer, couldn't return sooner than that timeline. It just means that doctors believe this type of injury normally takes three to four weeks of recovery and that is the doctors' best estimation of how long it could take Williams to recover."
Considering the Bears kept this information about their quarterback under wraps until Sunday, they'll likely do their best to play coy until the last possible minute against the Jets.
It'll either be Tyson Bagent or journeyman veteran Case Keenum. Bagent is currently listed as the Bears' QB2 behind Williams, but a concussion is keeping him out of Week 3's matchup with the Eagles.
If Bagent is able to clear concussion protocol this week, he'll likely get the nod against the Jets. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how Chicago's offense operates on Monday night without their starting quarterback.
