One of the most head-scratching chapters of the New York Jets' 2026 season so far was the absence of wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. The third-year wideout missed New York's last four games with a finger injury that never quite got the clarification fans needed.
In between the Jets' Week 2 game against the Green Bay Packers and Week 3 outing vs. the Detroit Lions, Mitchell reportedly got his finger caught up in a jersey during practice, requiring nearly a month off to recover.
Regardless, that chapter is behind us now, as Mitchell is set to make his return to the Jets lineup this Sunday when they take on the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium. His presence should only help New York's offense get back on track after some so-so outings.
Even with Mitchell's impending return, it still feels the Jets are doing their best to keep the finer details of the injury under wraps, as speaking with reporters yesterday, the former Indianapolis Colts draft pick refused to dive into specifics about his finger.
Adonai Mitchell just spoke to reporters. He was clearly told not to say anything about his injury. He said he can’t remember how the injury happened or if he had an option for surgery. I’m a little worried he has amnesia.

Adonai Mitchell excited to get back on the field for the New York Jets
After nearly a month off from football, Mitchell is clearly itching to get back onto the field. Speaking with reporters in the Jets' locker room, the 24-year-old was persistently asked how his finger felt.
Instead of answering directly, he reiterated just how excited he was to get back in action and continued to downplay the mysterious injury.
"I feel great, man. I got 10 of them thangs (fingers), and dog, I'm just ready to ball with the guys, man."Adonai Mitchell
It seems like we may never get a straight answer out of Mitchell or the Jets on the extent of his finger injury, and that's fine. As long as he's back in the lineup and healthy again, no harm, no foul.
New York Jets offense missed Adonai Mitchell
There's no doubt Mitchell's absence has been felt within the Jets' offense, especially during those first few games he missed. Without him and Omar Cooper Jr. in the lineup, New York had no choice but to turn to the likes of Sterling Shepard and some undrafted free agents.
Cooper made it back in time for last week's game in New England, and he certainly brought the offense back up a notch, but having both him and Mitchell back will be exciting.
It'll force defenders to spread their coverage around the back end and should help free up Garrett Wilson from being bracketed off on every passing play.
