Aaron Glenn rules out 2 Jets, casts doubt on status of 2 more ahead of Week 1

Aaron Glenn ruled out two New York Jets and listed two more as doubtful at his Friday media availability, providing a clearer picture of which players will be suited up when they take the field on Sunday afternoon in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt shared that Glenn ruled out edge Joseph Ossai and veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick. Neither player had been participating in practice all week and was trending in this direction.

Rosenblatt also revealed via Glenn that rookie cornerback D'Angelo Ponds and former All-Pro kick returner Kene Nwangwu were both doubtful with calf and back injuries, respectively. Ponds makes sense; he hasn't had a full week of practice yet thanks to the injury that has held him out all summer, but Nwangwu is a new one.

Glenn sounded positive when talking about some of the key injuries for projected starters, such as Ossai, Ponds, and Nwangwu. Ossai, in particular, he singled out as "week-to-week," hopefully ruling out a stint on the short-term injured reserve.

"Joe Ossai is getting better and better. Again, I see he was week to week. I'm looking for him to see how he's gonna operate in practice next week. And hopefully he'll be able to do that."

Hopefully, Ossai is back sooner rather than later. Heading into the summer, he was a projected starter on the edge across from David Bailey. Expect to see a lot of Kingsley Enagbare in the meantime for New York, with a little bit of Will McDonald sprinkled in.

As for Nwangwu and Ponds, it sounds like an injury popped up for Nwangwu at Thursday's practice, and Ponds seems healthy enough to play, but hasn't gotten enough reps to be trusted in action quite yet.

"Two other guys that are doubtful, Kene. Kene had a back yesterday. We'll see how he's gonna operate today in practice. And also, Ponds. I love where he's at when it comes to his physical. But man, just the part of him not getting as much reps as he can. He'll be doubtful when it comes to that. And then everybody else that we talked about, they're ready to go. So I look forward to seeing those guys go out there and play."

All in all, a positive update from Glenn. It's unlikely any of the four players he mentions will suit up for the season opener, but he essentially confirmed the Jets will have Breece Hall and Kenyon Sadiq on the field, which is about as big as it gets for this offense.
