The NY Jets have brought back a franchise legend as they try to climb back out of the doldrums, bringing former Pro Bowl cornerback and Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn back home as their next head coach following the firing of Robert Saleh.

After playing a huge role in Detroit's massive defensive turnaround and earning tremendously strong testimonials from his players as a leader, Glenn was requested to be interviewed by all seven teams who had coaching vacancies. Ultimately, the possibility of returning to the Jets and breaking their playoff drought was too appealing for Glenn.

While Glenn is a tremendous hire, finding the right collection of assistant coaches may be just as important. The early speculation has been all over the place, but some of the more prominent names in the search should been extremely enticing for Jets fans.

According to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, sources around the league believe that Glenn's first ever Jets coaching staff could feature Nick Caley as the offensive coordinator, Steve Wilks as the defensive coordinator, and Chris Banjo as the special teams coach. Glenn is coming in hot and heavy.

Aaron Glenn's rumored coaching staff with NY Jets revealed

Caley, who coached the Patriots tight ends for six seasons, spent the last two years doing the same with the Rams while adding the additional title of pass game coordinator to his resume this year. Caley has long been respected as an up-and-coming offensive mind by names like Bill Belichick and Sean McVay.

Wilks, who had head coaching experience with Arizona and Carolina, has been at his best as a coordinator with teams like the Panthers, Browns, and 49ers.

His background as a defensive backs coach will likely be well received by names like Sauce Gardner. Banjo played in New Orleans while Glenn coached there, and he currently coaches in Denver with Seay Payton.

This staff isn't perfect. Wilks' last stop as a DC in San Francisco was far from ideal, and Caley has never called plays before. However, Glenn is trying to poach from the very successful McVay and Payton coaching trees, which could work out quite well.

The Jets appear to have made one of the better hires of this cycle, bringing in a coach everyone else wanted. If Glenn nails his staff, especially on the offensive side of the ball, the Jets could get this team turned around very quickly.
