The New York Jets have been pretty banged up the last few weeks, and it seems that trend will continue into Week 5. Head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed on Friday that the team will be missing wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, running back Breece Hall, left guard Dylan Parham, and linebacker Kiko Mauigoa for their upcoming game against the Cleveland Browns.
Mitchell has been a bit of a mystery, nursing a finger injury over the last few weeks. It's kept him out of the Jets' last two games after a promising start to the 2026 season. While Mitchell's absence is a tough blow to the passing offense, it's the rushing game that is going to be even more short-handed.
Hall and Parham, two players who suffered injuries in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions, will miss their second consecutive games. The loss of Parham specifically has been rough for the Jets' offensive line as a unit. His absence has been felt in both pass protection and run blocking.
New York Jets will need backups to step up against Cleveland Browns
With both key starters out, it will be harder for the Jets to get their run game off the ground, but not impossible. It's safe to say it's been lackluster through the first four games as it is.
So far in 2026, the Jets are averaging 84 rushing yards per game, 27th-best in the league. Not having their starting running back and best run-blocking guard is not going to help with that.
Before going down with an injury, Parham was quietly having a really good season. Pro Football Focus graded him as the second-best guard in the NFL, with an overall grade of 88.7. His run blocking in particular was a major strength, with a grade of 90.4.
His replacement, Jordan Meredith, has not been as productive. But with the Browns missing some of their own key pieces on the defensive line, such as 2025 first-round pick Mason Graham, the task at hand will be just a bit easier.
With Hall out, Braelon Allen is expected to serve as the lead back, as he did last week in Chicago. Had it not been for the game getting out of hand quickly, it felt like the 22-year-old was on pace for a productive outing.
With limited touches, Allen ran the ball 14 times for 59 yards, good for an average of 4.2 yards per carry. It was the most any Jets running back had since Hall's 4.6 YPC in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans.
If the Jets want to get back in the win column on Sunday, they'll need a strong performance from their rushing attack. With some key injuries, it will be hard, but not impossible.
