3 weird predictions for the Jets' 2025 season that could actually happen

The Jets are weird. These predictions are weirder.

The New York Jets have a way of keeping fans on their toes. Every season seems to bring a mix of promise, chaos, and the kind of unpredictability that makes analyzing this team both frustrating and oddly entertaining.

In other words, the Jets are weird. With that in mind, we’ve taken a closer look at three unusual predictions for the Jets this year. These aren’t your typical bold takes, as each one leans into the weird, the surprising, and even the slightly implausible.

Yet, because this is the Jets, somehow each could realistically come true. For a team like the Jets, “weird but possible” might just be the perfect way to describe their entire existence. Let's get on with the list.

3 weird predictions for the Jets in 2025

1. The Jets go from last to first in overall rush attempts

The Jets had arguably the NFL’s worst rushing attack in 2024, due in large part to the fact that they averaged just 21 rush attempts per game, the fewest in the league. Expect their offensive approach to look very different in 2025.

Aaron Rodgers is gone, and Justin Fields has been brought in to serve as his replacement. The Jets have already heavily hinted at a run-heavy game plan under new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, and the preseason has only confirmed those expectations.

There's a very real chance that the Jets could go from the fewest rush attempts in the league to the most in the span of just a year. That's literally never happened before in NFL history.

With a potentially top-10 offensive line, a talented group of running backs, a scarily thin receiving corps, and the most dynamic dual-threat quarterback the Jets may have ever had, the stage is set for this team to make a little weird NFL history this season.

2. The Jets win a game where their defense scores more points than their offense

Admittedly, this one is probably the least likely to happen of all three predictions on this list, but don't rule it out. This Jets offense isn't built to score a lot of points this season, but new head coach Aaron Glenn and defensive coordinator Steve Wilks have made it clear they plan to emphasize takeaways on defense.

A Michael Carter II pick-six here, a Quincy Williams fumble recovery there, or even a Will McDonald safety could quickly outpace what the offense is able to produce. Against a weaker or turnover-prone opponent, the Jets might not need much from their offense to secure a win if the defense is able to make plays.

It would be an unusual way to win a game, but it's not impossible. If we wanted to make this feat a little more attainable, we could include non-field-goal scores from special teams, like punt or kickoff returns. Either way, this would be a very "Jets" way to win a football game this season.

3. Brady Cook is the new Mike White

Why not? Why can't Brady Cook be the next cult hero Jets backup quarterback who has his so-called "Linsanity" run? Why can't he be the next Mike White?

With Tyrod Taylor’s health status still uncertain and Justin Fields prone to taking more hits than most other quarterbacks, there's a very real chance that Cook will be given an opportunity to suit up at some point this season. And if he does, the stage might be set for him to become the latest NFL underdog story.

Cook flashed his upside in the preseason over the last two years and is tailor-made to run this Jets offense. If Fields and Taylor miss time, don't be shocked if the former Missouri standout seizes his opportunity and captures the hearts of Jets fans and players alike.
