3 QB prospects who officially off the table after Jets’ Frank Reich hire

These QB prospects don't exactly fit a Frank Reich offense.

The New York Jets are finally done looking for their next offensive coordinator, as the lengthy process that began when Tanner Engstrand was not retained has come to a close after hiring former Bills quarterback and Colts head coach Frank Reich.

Reich has a history of developing quarterbacks, but he typically has a preferred archetype when Bryce Young is not being forced on him. He likes quarterbacks who are bigger pocket passers who have a strong arm and avoid turning the ball over, as compared to smaller passers who make plays with their legs.

If the Jets stick to that mindset, that could influence their decision to take a quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft. If they move forward with that goal, it seems increasingly less likely that one of these three players will be selected by New York in 2026.

3 NFL Draft QB prospects off the table for Jets after Frank Reich hire

3. Carson Beck, Miami

Beck has size, a willingness to attack defenses down the field, and enough experience to have won 37 college games and take an underdog Hurricanes team to the National Championship. However, turnovers have been a big problem throughout his college career, and Reich does not like risky quarterbacks in that mold.

Beck was picked off 24 times in the last two seasons, and there were many more dropped picks in there as well. Beck needs some major seasoning, and Reich might not be willing to provide the level of extra care that he needs.

2. Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss

Between Chambliss begging on his hands and knees to go back to Oxford and his size being listed at an extremely generous 6-1 and 200 pounds on both accounts, the Rebels' playmaker doesn't meet the physical benchmarks Reich holds in high regard among his passers.

Reich knows he doesn't have much room for error in New York. With that in mind, the idea of him planting his flag on the side of someone who was playing at Division II Ferris State just one year ago and comes from a very simple offense seems unlikely.

1. Garrett Nussmeier, LSU

Nussmeier is still the very best of the Day 2 quarterbacks due to his pre-snap brain and solid arm, but many of the red flags that are hanging off his stock are the same warning signs that Reich normally leans on when deciding which quarterbacks to avoid sinking developmental resources into.

Nussmeier's 6-1, 202-pound frame and sub-9-inch hands are both very small for NFL standards, and his play dipped after suffering an ab injury. There's a world where he thrives, but the Jets likely won't take that plunge under Reich.
