The NY Jets are in the midst of one of the most chaotic months in franchise history. From the Robert Saleh firing to the Davante Adams trade to everything going on with Haason Reddick, it's been an eventful few weeks for the Jets organization.
And while the news has temporarily slowed down, the Jets aren't done making changes to their roster. The trade deadline is fast approaching, and there's at least one player under contract with the Jets who seems likely to be moved in the near future.
The Jets should also have a few players returning from injury in the coming weeks. The 53-man roster is an ever-changing puzzle, with pieces constantly shifting due to injuries, roster moves, and game-day adjustments.
Expect some changes to be coming to the Jets' active roster within the next few days or weeks. Let's take a look at a few Jets players who might not remain on the 53-man roster through the end of October.
3. Anthony Firkser, TE, NY Jets
The Jets officially signed Anthony Firkser to the 53-man roster last week as the veteran tight end replaced the struggling Brenden Bates as the team's TE3 behind Tyler Conklin and Jeremy Ruckert.
Firkser has appeared in three games for the Jets this season, playing almost exclusively on special teams. He's played just seven offensive snaps, including zero in the Jets' Week 7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Firkser's time on the 53-man roster might be short-lived, however. The Jets designated Kenny Yeboah to return from the injured reserve this week, and there's a real chance he's added to the active roster before this Sunday's game.
Yeboah is a favorite of special teams coordinator Brant Boyer and put together an impressive summer with the Jets. He will likely take Firkser's place on the active roster, with the veteran returning to the practice squad instead. That could mean one of Bates or Zack Kuntz is let go.
2. Braiden McGregor, DE, NY Jets
Haason Reddick officially returned to practice with the Jets this week following months away from the team. While it's not official yet, the expectation is that he will make his Jets debut this Sunday against the New England Patriots.
The Jets have been given a two-week roster exemption for Reddick, but before he plays, they will need to add him to the active roster. That's going to come at the expense of one of the team's defensive linemen.
The obvious choice is undrafted rookie Braiden McGregor, who has fallen out of the rotation and has been a healthy scratch the last few weeks. The Jets could try to sneak McGregor onto their practice squad.
Another option would be to release veteran Takk McKinley, who has been active but hasn't really made much of an impact. If the Jets are worried about losing McGregor, they might cut ties with McKinley instead.
1. Mike Williams, WR, NY Jets
The Jets aren't expected to be super active leading into next month's trade deadline, but one player who seems destined to be moved is wide receiver Mike Williams. Williams has been the subject of extensive trade rumors since his team acquired Davante Adams this month.
The eight-year veteran was active in Week 7 and played 19 snaps, but it's clear his time in New York is coming to an end. The Jets are feeling out offers and are expected to trade him before the deadline.
The Jets' wide receiver room is crowded enough with Adams, Garrett Wilson, and Allen Lazard, and it doesn't help matters that Williams has struggled to get on the same page with Aaron Rodgers.
Williams could very well be playing his final game for the Jets this Sunday against the Patriots. It would be a surprise if he was not traded before the Nov. 5 deadline.
