The NY Jets can officially put their exhaustive head coaching search to rest, as they have settled on former Pro Bowl cornerback and Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as their next leading man. The challenge now turns to building a roster that can get this team to the postseason.

After hiring Darren Mougey as GM, the next step will be building a roster that can get the most out of Glenn's scheme. Even though the Jets may not have a ton of money to spend in free agency, the new energy Glenn is bringing to town should be a big boost for this franchise.

The Jets should already have their eyes set on these three free agents on the defensive side of the ball, as they could thrive alongside Glenn in New York.

3 NY Jets free agent targets who fit Aaron Glenn's scheme

3. D.J. Jones, DT, Denver Broncos

D>J. Jones had previously been mentioned as a Jets target, as he and Robert Saleh had some overlap in San Francisco. After helping turn Denver's defense around, Jones might make the trip to New York as he patches up one of the worst defensive tackle rooms in the entire AFC.

Jones would be an immediate starter next to Quinnen Williams, filling the same sort of role DJ Reader had in Glenn's Detroit days. Jones won't cost a ton, which could be good news for a Jets team that may have to pay some significant money in order to retain many of their stars.

2. Carlton Davis, CB, Detroit Lions

Carlton Davis, who signed a one-year deal with Glenn's Lions after a very solid stint in Tampa Bay, has struggled with injuries, never playing more than 14 games in a season. If the Jets are enticed by his talent, however, they could overlook that fact and end up signing him to replace DJ Reed on a one-year deal.

Davis graded out as a top 30 cornerback in both coverage and run defense this season, which will boost a Jets team that couldn't seem to tackle an old woman at times last year. Davis could also bring some veteran mentorship to Detroit, as he can help instruct others on the finer points of his scheme.

1. Khalil Mack, EDGE, Los Angeles Chargers

Khalil Mack has confirmed that he is going to suit up for another season after his Chargers flamed out in the playoffs. The nine-time Pro Bowler and future Hall of Famer has some gas left in the tank, which could be welcome news for a Jets team that is much thinner at the edge rusher spot than previously indicated.

With Will McDonald's sack production overshadowing some poor run defense, Jermaine Johnson coming off a torn Achilles, and the Haason Reddick nightmare finally in the past, one more addition is needed. Mack, who tallied 31 sacks in three seasons with the Chargers, might be the best two-way edge rusher on the market.
