2. The NY Jets’ first pick on Day 2 will be a cornerback

The Jets’ first pick on Day 2 is the No. 34 overall selection, but as we just predicted, they could end up trading that pick. As such, the Jets will use whatever pick they receive to draft a cornerback.

Over the past few months, New York has been tied to the cornerback position in the draft. There were thoughts that the team was going to trade up and draft one on Day 1, or that someone like Greg Newsome II would fall to them with their original No. 23 overall pick.

Obviously, neither of those ended up happening, which means the team is going to be targeting one right away on Day 2.

There are still a number of excellent, athletic cornerbacks available, despite so many being taken in Round 1. In no particular order, Tyson Campbell, Asante Samuel Jr., Kelvin Joseph, and Aaron Robinson are four names to keep an eye on.

Personally, Samuel should be the player that New York selects if he’s still available for them. Although he lacks size, he makes up for it with his quickness and anticipation.

The cornerback position is an important need for the Jets, so expect them to address it early on Day 2.
