NY Jets: 5 most likely trade destinations for QB Sam Darnold
By Justin Fried
4. The NY Jets could trade Sam Darnold to the Washington Football Team
The Washington Football Team seemed to snag their QB1 in free agency when they signed the well-traveled Ryan Fitzpatrick to a one-year deal. But anyone with knowledge of Fitzpatrick’s history knows that it wouldn’t be wise to rely on him as a starter.
History has proven that Fitzpatrick’s inconsistency always comes back to bite him. And even though he’s played some pretty good football over the last two years, he’ll turn 39-years-old in November.
Washington could use some extra insurance, even on top of postseason standout Taylor Heinicke.
Darnold makes sense if Washington is not only looking for a player who could push Fitzpatrick and Heinicke for the starting job, but someone who could potentially establish himself as a long-term starter.

The interesting thing about Washington is that, despite their uncertain quarterback situation, they enter the 2021 season as defending NFC East champions and arguably the favorites to win the division again.
They just need consistent quarterback play. Perhaps Darnold isn’t the one to provide them with that, but why not take a chance on the former USC star?
Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline reiterated Washington’s interest in Darnold on Thursday indicating that they remain involved in his trade market.
Again, there are probably better fits out there, especially after the Fitzpatrick signing. But don’t rule out Washington still making a move for Darnold.
