As another lost New York Jets season unfolds, it’s time to evaluate this 53-man roster from top to bottom. Let’s start today’s ranking with #30, Quincy Enunwa.

Wide Receiver (IR). Quincy Enunwa. 30. 30.

New York Jets star receiver Quincy Enunwa is tough to write about because his NFL future is very much in jeopardy. His two consecutive season-ending neck injuries have now been diagnosed as spinal stenosis — the debilitating condition that ended third baseman David Wright’s New York Mets career.

The 2014 sixth-round pick of ex-ex-general manager John Idzik endured legal problems in his rookie year before excelling the next three seasons (a combined 108 receptions for over 1,600 yards and five TDs). Idzik’s successor Mike Maccagnan — who panicked in the 2016 Draft take Christian Hackenberg in the second round (51st overall) — panicked again this time last year over rumors of the New England Patriots salivating over Enunwa.

So on a player coming off a frightening season-ending injury, Trader Mike bestowed a four-year $36 million pact (with over $20 million guaranteed).

And the organization cannot be pleased with Enunwa’s lackadaisical approach to rehab, logging tens of thousands of dollars in team fines.  He was embarrassed that coach Adam Gase posted his fines on a locker room blackboard — and then the flanker compounded the issue by airing his dirt about the team’s medical staff.

You get the distinct impression that Quincy is only in it for the money — not that you can blame him — and that he’ll continue showing up for rehab sessions until he’s declared medically unfit to play pro football. That would be a sad ending to a promising NFL career.

At this point, perhaps an insurance settlement would be best for all parties.
