The New York Jets are loaded with promising talent on defense, and safety Jamal Adams is ready to take his unit to the next level in 2019.

There were already the beginnings of one of the best young defenses in the NFL, but the Jets have added some key pieces this offseason that could quickly make their group one of the league’s best this season.

Jamal Adams, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, has already established himself as one of the best safeties in the NFL. His versatile skill set, playmaking ability and vocal, fiery leadership has helped guide a young team through the difficult task of gaining the experience necessary to be successful at the highest level.

Adams spoke to the media following Thursday’s organized team activities, lauding his entire unit, and praising one of their new additions, free agent linebacker C.J. Mosley:

Jamal Adams on the #Jets defense: It’s aggressive. We talk our noise and we fly around the ball. We’re going to compete.

“Obviously he’s a great leader. But he’s a guy that can move around and make plays” -Jamal Adams on what C.J Mosley brings to the table.

Mosley was signed this offseason after the Baltimore Ravens surprisingly let him walk after five seasons, despite making four Pro Bowls and racking up nearly 600 tackles in the process. The Jets broke the bank for their new middle linebacker, but his presence, both on the field and in the locker room, should aid Adams in leading this defense toward their goal of being one of the league’s best.

The Jets also made a big splash for their defense in the 2019 NFL draft, landing Alabama defensive lineman Quinnen Williams with the No. 3 overall pick. Williams, believed by many to be the best overall prospect in this year’s draft class, joins fellow top-10 pick Leonard Williams along what should be a much-improved defensive line for the Jets.

Adams was named to his first Pro Bowl last year, and should only continue to improve, building on the success he’s had over his first two NFL seasons.
