In this 2019 NFL Draft player profile, we take a look at the strengths and weaknesses of quarterback Dwayne Haskins out of Ohio State University.

Dwayne Haskins has what it takes to play for a team in need of a top quarterback as his potential is clearly there. Here are some of the key things to know about him and why he is likely going to be one of the first quarterbacks off the board.

Ohio State’s Haskins is a young quarterback who has possibly the strongest arm of all this year’s quarterbacks. At 21-years-old, Haskins has done a lot of significant things that say he would be successful for any NFL team.

More from Jets Draft

One of his major successes was being named the 2018 Big Ten Player of the Year. Haskins is also a 2019 Rose Bowl Champion, six-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, 2019 Rose Bowl MVP and 2017 Cotton Bowl Champion to boot. All of these things are made possible due to the fact that he has one of the most powerful arms in all of college football.

His college coaching could also play a big impact as well. Haskins has been coached by Urban Meyer, who has been the root and backbone of many Buckeyes success stories.

In 2018, Haskins did quite well with 4,831 yards, 50 Touchdowns,  and only 8 interceptions in his only year as a starter.

STRENGTHS

Personally, the biggest thing that stands out is the fact that Haskins has wow-worthy arm strength and can make certain throws look easy. He is one of the best quarterbacks in this year’s draft class. Haskins has good timing with his throws, which any team that runs a West Coast scheme could appreciate.

WEAKNESSES

The fact that Haskins has only started one year could suggest that it’s riskier for a team in need of a quarterback, preferably one with more experience. Haskins has also had difficulty going through his progressions and that is something he would have to improve upon at a much quicker pace at the NFL level.

NEW YORK JETS PREDICTION

There’s always room for improvement with any college athlete that makes the move to the NFL. I’m very sure he’s very capable of doing that. With one of the best college coaches in Urban Meyer, Haskins really should be off the board rather quickly. The Giants, Dolphins, Jaguars, and maybe even the Buccaneers are some teams in need of a quarterback. Haskins is one of, if not the top quarterback in this year’s class. There are a few teams who could possibly trade up to where the Jets pick to grab Haskins possibly giving them trade down opportunities.
