In this 2019 NFL Draft profile, we look at the strengths, weaknesses and draft prediction of defensive lineman Quinnen Williams out of Alabama.
Quinnen Williams may just be the first defensive lineman picked in the 2019 NFL Draft. Even though he was a redshirt sophomore, his short collegiate career has heads turning.
His versatility allowed him to become a nose tackle, even though that’s not where he’s most comfortable when Da’Ron Payne decided to enter the 2018 NFL Draft. He gained some weight and decided he was going to become the best defender there was, no matter which position he was lined up for.
Williams started taking over the field and grabbed attention from fans, coaches and scouts. While playing in the SEC conference, and only playing in 24 games, he totaled 91 tackles. Of those tackles, 56 were solo and 35 were assisted. He also had 26 tackles for loss as well as 10 sacks.
STRENGTHS
Williams is extremely strong and versatile for his frame. He is aware of his surroundings and doesn’t hesitate. He can handle his own against double teams. He is conditioned and well versed. He can shed blocks, defend the run and can make contact with a quarterback very quickly. He’s strong and quick on his feet. He definitely dominates the game.

WEAKNESSES
Have you ever heard the phrase, one hit wonder? That’s one of Williams’ biggest weakness. He redshirted his freshmen year, so he’s not very seasoned entering the 2019 NFL Draft. He will definitely need conditioning in his stance and body work.
DRAFT DAY PREDICTION
Williams is a first-rounder. He has the potential to be the missing link for the San Francisco 49ers or the Oakland Raiders.
NEW YORK JETS PREDICTION
Should the New York Jets decide to go defense with their No. 3 overall pick, he will be a huge compliment to Leonard Williams. I can see it now, Williams and Williams.
