Get up-to-the-minute updates from tonight’s Week 1 Monday Night Football matchup between the New York Jets and Detroit Lions.
For months, New York Jets fans have been waiting for this moment. The start of a brand new NFL season filled with hope, promise, and another year of making great football memories. Of course, the biggest news of them all is on rookie quarterback Sam Darnold making his first ever pro start tonight on Monday Night Football.
The Jets are on the road as they will face the Detroit Lions, a formidable team that just barely missed the NFL Playoffs last season. It’ll be a battle of quarterback Matthew Stafford against what should be the biggest strength of the team, the Jets defensive secondary. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, “New Jack City” will be displayed tonight in front of a national primetime audience that will look to make Stafford’s night a bad one.
Besides Darnold and a new-look secondary featuring top free agent cornerback Trumaine Johnson, the Jets are hoping to continue rebuilding the right way. A big win on Monday Night Football will go a very long way in building confidence throughout the team for the season ahead and do wonders for the development of a young roster with a lot to prove.

- NY Jets reportedly non-tendering linebacker Harvey Langi
- NY Jets: Why the team should not cut Jamison Crowder
- NY Jets should try to sign Kenny Golladay in free agency
- NY Jets: Jonnu Smith would be a smart free-agent target
As far as injuries are concerned, the Jets will be without wide receiver Jermaine Kearse (abdomen) and safety Marcus Maye (foot) might be limited in action if he plays at all tonight against the Lions. Aside from those two major injuries, the Jets are ready to do their best to be competitive against a Lions team that has what it takes to go very far this upcoming season.

LTJ: If the Jets play like this every week, this will be one incredible season. All in all, great job in every aspect of tonight’s game as this team is ready to continue playing competitive football to prove that they can indeed be contenders sooner than expected.
S Jamal Adams' first NFL career INT gives the Jets 5 takeaways for the game.

LTJ: What a night! Adams gets his first ever NFL interception! This is just such an amazing feeling!
That's a 31-point quarter for those counting at home. #NYJvsDET pic.twitter.com/gfHl98m9MW

LTJ: Jets fans are going to bed so happy tonight. Smiles from ear to ear and dreams of a very bright future with this kind of performance.
Wow. Isaiah Crowell gets in on the action and runs 62 yards for a TD. This is an absolute blowout. 48-17. #Jets
— Dennis Waszak Jr. (@DWAZ73) September 11, 2018
LTJ: My goodness, the Lions are in full meltdown mode. I think the Jets drop 50+ tonight at this rate!
Darron Lee with his SECOND INT of Matthew Stafford tonight. Stafford has four in this game vs. #Jets
— Dennis Waszak Jr. (@DWAZ73) September 11, 2018
LTJ: Is this real? Are we sure this isn’t a dream? As a writer and editor… I’m at a loss for words!
He gone ?@AndreRoberts returns it for 6! #NYJvsDET pic.twitter.com/Z7dv6nz3pq
— New York Jets (@nyjets) September 11, 2018
LTJ: UNBELIEVABLE!!! I’m not trying to toot my own horn or anything but I did predict Andre Roberts would score a special teams touchdown at some point in 2018. Who would have thought on Monday Night Football?
Henry Anderson and Leonard Williams sandwiched Matthew Stafford, who appears to be in a considerable amount of pain, as one might imagine.
— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) September 11, 2018
LTJ: Ouch! That looked like it hurt as he’ll be feeling that tomorrow.
It's been five years since we've had a pick-6.
The drought is over thanks to @DLeeMG8. #NYJvsDET pic.twitter.com/CrKqF6pTFp

LTJ: Wow, what a drive by Darnold and another TD pass on the night. I’m telling you, this kid is going to be so good in a few years from now.
#Lions strike quick in the second half to tie the game! #NYJvsDET #OnePride pic.twitter.com/W2FmwmRMzT

LTJ: Stafford wasted no time and put his Lions right back in this game with one heck of a drive. Jets and Lions are tied now 17-17.
CB Trumaine Johnson is on the field to start the 2nd half. #NYJvsDET
— New York Jets (@nyjets) September 11, 2018
LTJ: Whew!
CB Buster Skrine (rib) is probable to return. #NYJvsDET
— New York Jets (@nyjets) September 11, 2018
LTJ: Skrine and Johnson are back in the game with the helmets on. What a relief they’re okay!
We like what we see. #NYJvsDET pic.twitter.com/tLqPF0u7xy
— New York Jets (@nyjets) September 11, 2018
LTJ: I’d expect to see the Jets really hammer in that ground game by sticking with Crowell and Powell to end the half by winning the time of possession battle. Stafford obviously looks hurt so this will help limit anything he can do on the field by keeping him off it.
Prater's FG makes it Jets 17, Lions 10 with 11 seconds left in 2Q #nyj
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) September 11, 2018
LTJ: This has been a very good game heading into the half. Now it’s time for the Jets to keep on the aggression and finish this game with a win.
Career TD pass No. 1 ✔#NYJvsDET pic.twitter.com/SiOW7qG1V4

LTJ: What a highlight! Excellent bounce back by Darnold and the Jets offense.

LTJ: “Darnold to Anderson” is going to be said for many years to come. What a touchdown pass!
CB Trumaine Johnson is being evaluated for a concussion. #NYJvsDET
— New York Jets (@nyjets) September 11, 2018
LTJ: Not good news at all. Hopefully, he’ll be okay after this update.
Impressive INT by CB Trumaine Johnson, but what a great punch by WR Kenny Golladay to force a fumble on the return. … Johnson is being pulled off the field to check for a concussion. He looked woozy.
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RVacchianoSNY) September 11, 2018
LTJ: Uh-oh. This isn’t good news at all. Hopefully, Johnson is okay.
Myers 35-yard FG is good. Jets 10, Lions 7 with 14:57 left in 2Q #nyj
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) September 10, 2018
LTJ: Good start to the 2nd quarter. Jets now up 10-7 after Myers hits the field goal.
Tied up and in position for more. #NYJvsDET pic.twitter.com/45GSbJzU5I
— New York Jets (@nyjets) September 10, 2018
LTJ: Tied at the end of the first quarter. Nice to see the Jets bounce back and not let that pick-6 dictate the rest of the quarter.
Claiborne picks off Stafford. The momentum is all Jets right now. #nyj
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) September 10, 2018
LTJ: This is why they are called “New Jack City” to opposing offenses!
Crowell scores his first TD as a Jet. Nice block by RT Shell. Set up by the Roberts punt return. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) September 10, 2018
LTJ: Great drive and extra effort by Crowell to seal the deal. Telling you, Crowell is going to have a big year for the Jets in 2018.
Doug Middleton and Brandon Copeland starting for Marcus Maye and Josh Martin, respectively. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) September 10, 2018
LTJ: It’s the next man up mentality but the Jets not having Maye in the lineup will undoubtedly hurt them as the game goes on. Expect to see Stafford hit that area of the field often.
Ansah split Beachum and Carpenter to get to Darnold. #nyj
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) September 10, 2018
LTJ: The Jets offensive line is going to be problematic all season long. Predict general manager Mike Maccagnan will likely have to trade for some better offensive linemen to make up for the lack of talent and consistency.
3 TEs and the Jets hammer away with Crowell. Good-looking possession. #NYJvsDET #Jets #MNF
— Eric Allen (@eallenjets) September 10, 2018
LTJ: I like this group of tight ends. Everyone works hard and as the season progresses, one will likely emerge as a top tight end. I’m guessing it’ll be Eric Tomlinson.
Good poise (and protection from the line) as Sam Darnold converts a third down with a 12-yard pass. A positive development there for him.
— Darryl Slater (@DarrylSlater) September 10, 2018
LTJ: Great play by Darnold to calm the nerves a bit. Can only continue to build confidence as him and the Jets march down the field.
Darnold's first pass is a pick 6.
— Al Iannazzone (@Al_Iannazzone) September 10, 2018
LTJ: Okay, okay. I get it. Darnold is probably super nervous and tried to do more than what he was supposed to there. But wow… this is not what I expected at all.

— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) September 10, 2018
LTJ: Wow, talk about making NFL history! I’m so excited for what awaits the Jets and Sam Darnold, one couldn’t have asked for a better future franchise quarterback!
FYI…

LTJ: Such a beautiful sight! One of my favorite uniform combinations by the Jets! It’s all about that “White Out” style!
Time for the bright lights. #NYJvsDET

— New York Jets (@nyjets) September 10, 2018
LTJ: I’m expecting to see Darnold manage tonight’s game well against the Lions and make very little to no mistakes. Should be a great test for him on one huge stage on Monday Night Football.

LTJ: Who doesn’t love pre-game festivities right before kickoff? Always loved seeing the Jets get ready and pumped up right before the madness begins.
