Although only entering his second season in the NFL, New York Jets safety Jamal Adams is on his way to becoming one of the best defensive backs in the league.

In the 2017 NFL Draft, the New York Jets made a major upgrade to their secondary by selecting LSU safety Jamal Adams. Adams quickly proved to be a great selection for the Jets with his leadership and performance.

Going into the 2018 season, Adams is ready to prove he is the Jets defensive leader of the future and become one of the best defensive backs in the NFL. Here’s his full profile heading into training camp with the Jets.

2017 SEASON REVIEW

Adams started all 16 games for the Jets in 2017, recording 63 tackles, two sacks, and two fumble recoveries. According to Pro Football Focus, Adams recorded the most run stops for a safety in 2017 with 26. Adams is already a great run defender but will need to improve in pass coverage in 2018 if he wants to become one of the best defensive backs in the NFL. He did not record an interception in his rookie season.

2018 SEASON OUTLOOK

Adams was not your typical rookie in 2017 because he quickly earned the respect of his teammates and became the voice of the defense. He has cut fried food out of his diet and the coaching staff has seen a major improvement in the mental part of his game. Adams should be named a defensive captain along with defensive lineman Leonard Williams. Expect Adams to also record more than a couple of interceptions in 2018.

TRAINING CAMP PREDICTION

Adams will make the team because he is the most important piece of the Jets young secondary. The Jets have all the pieces to become an elite secondary again like they were during the Rex Ryan era. For that to happen, Adams will need to build off a great rookie year in 2018 to become one of the best at his position this upcoming season.
