With the New York Jets selecting quarterback Sam Darnold in the 2018 NFL Draft, they got a steal of a pick as fans should be excited.

Many people are still in shock about what happened in Round 1 of the 2018 NFL Draft. With Baker Mayfield being taken at No. 1,  New York Jets fans got very excited with quarterback Sam Darnold being there and the dreams have finally come true.

With the Jets selecting Darnold, they have a bright young player that has a lot of upside to his game. He has been able to handle the pressure in the pocket and has been able to be a bonafide playmaker which you want in your organization.

Darnold has an excellent mentor in Josh McCown who has helped develop many young players throughout his career. He isn’t afraid in making any type of throw, and he trusts his arm and placement of the football especially in tight windows. For just being a junior in college, Darnold had excellent vision in going through his progressions.

He has the body size and speed for a quarterback who is a tough runner who can make moves, and be able to keep those chains moving. His completion rate is impressive as it is about 63 percent even with dealing with blitzes coming for him.

Darnold is a tough player moving in and out of the pocket and is an excellent player controlling his release and adjust his decision in throwing the football. His timing for making throws is impressive for how quick he gets rid of it and well, will be one heck of a quarterback for the Jets once he’s developed and his time comes.

The only thing that scares many including myself is his turnover margin which will likely be something he’ll need coaching and training on to correct. He should be able to fix that and develop into becoming an even smarter player than he already is.

For how big in size Darnold is it reminds me of Andrew Luck in his decision making and Ben Roethlisberger for his play making ability. It is a lot to put on him but he’s a natural born winner and will bring excitement into the locker room once his number is called.

Overall, the Jets may have gotten a steal in the draft this season. They need to handle this correctly and not rush Darnold. Let him learn and develop his game and grow as a person on and off the field. For those who doubt Darnold remember to be patient and give it time, you will change your opinion about him over the first few years of him being the pros. The Jets have a potential quarterback that could finally bring consistent success which is something they haven’t had in over five decades.
